Development Geologist/Geomodeller

At INEOS Energy we produce and trade oil, gas, power, liquefied natural gas (LNG) and carbon credits. This is supported by our investments in low carbon technologies, which will help sustain our business through the energy transition. Direct examples of these areas are ‘Project Greensand’, our pioneering carbon storage project in the Danish North Sea and our investment in HydrogenOne Capital.

We are looking for a Development Geologist to work on the geology and modeling of our operated fields.

The Geological Modeler role is pivotal in deepening the understating of subsurface reservoir dynamics. This position centres on consistently refining and updating full field geological models using Petrel, integrating both historical and recently acquired data. The models, which blend elements from biostratigraphy, core data, well logs and seismic datasets, serve as crucial tools for informing both immediate and long-range field plans. Additionally, you’ll take on a communicative mantle, frequently presenting results and insights to joint venture committees, peer assemblies, and government entities. The responsibilities further extend into well planning and drilling, where you’ll tackle probabilistic modelling while weighing up diverse uncertainties.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Keep updated full field geological models in Petrel taking into account historic data and ongoing data acquisition and interpretation.
  • Keep updated overburden geological models.
  • Provide models and integrated geological support to geophysicists and reservoir engineers.
  • Support peer reviews as and when required.
  • Well planning for development wells, studying parameter ranges and volumetric and structural uncertainty. Probabilistic modelling.
  • Create well paths, prognoses, logging and well planning documentation.

Skills & Knowledge Required

Technical Skills

  • Candidate should have an undergraduate degree in Geology or another relevant subject and ideally an MSc or PhD.
  • Experience at creating Petrel geological models integrating biostratigraphy, core, well logs and seismic scale datasets.
  • Demonstrable experience of the critical evaluation and q.c. of reservoir models using significant sedimentological knowledge.
  • Experience of working with reservoir engineers to model short and long term well and field behaviour.
  • Good presenter with experience of making stand-alone presentations within joint venture committees, to peers and to government agencies.
  • Appreciation of the importance and applicability of commerciality in the Business Development process.
  • Development and/or production experience ideally with an operator in the UK will be well regarded.
