Development Chemist - Personal Care

Location: Newton Aycliffe, County Durham (On-Site)

Following huge success across our sanitiser and handwash ranges (currently 2nd largest sanitiser brand in the UK) and the launch of our brand new household range of products, we are looking to strengthen the R&D Team with a new Development Chemist opportunity in Personal Care.

The successful applicant will join a small team of multi-disciplined scientists and Technicians and take on operational ownership of Personal Care projects for the UK and Europe. They will be responsible for the formulation of new and existing products for the Personal Care portfolio ensuring products are formulated and tested to specifications, creating analytical method, leading up-scaling and processing improvements.

Accountabilities:

  • Generate and execute project documentation and briefs to deliver the agreed pipeline with value for the business and consider the consumer insights.
  • Stay abreast of the competitive landscape and latest developments across the Personal care Industry to lead technical contribution of Strengths, Opportunities, Threats, and Weakness for building strategic plans for NPD.
  • Plan and organise laboratory activities, support investigations and upscaling activities in the factory.
  • Analyse process data to maintain and report Key Process measures and where relevant support with Quality Control.  
  • Manage and report progress of key development projects for the segment working cross functionally. Flag issues when they arise, ensuring transparency, candour, and a solution mindset.  
  • Ensure compliance in regulations, legislation and with all company regulatory, and health and safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Work with colleagues in a way which supports an engaging and motivational culture. Communicate effectively and ensure a level of customer focus mindset and a capability to have a commercial approach with customers, suppliers, and distributors.  

Knowledge & Qualifications:

  • BSc in scientific field with 1+ years proven experience formulating Personal Care products
  • 3+ years proven experience formulating Personal Care products (Desirable)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Excellent commercial awareness in the context of technically focussed organisations.
  • Experience working with external suppliers and distributors. 
  • Experience analysing process data to maintain and report Key Process measures.

Technical Skills:

  • In-depth proven R&D and regulatory experience
  • Knowledge of GLP quality requirements skills gained in similar work (or dissimilar but relevantly skilled work).
  • Able to present improvement plans in a clear and cohesive manner.
  • Organisational skills and planning knowledge
  • Microsoft office package skill to medium-advanced level
