Main role purpose:
To maintain electrical equipment and instrumentation to ensure that the PVC Resin plants (top tier COMAH site) and supporting workshops and offices operate reliably and safely.
In the event of a breakdown the Technician will be responsible for investigating the fault and ensuring that repairs are completed with minimum impact on production and SHE (safety, health and environment).
The Technician will carry out routine testing of safety critical equipment, also be involved in small projects, commissioning and will interact with other members of the maintenance teams (of all disciplines) and production teams.
The role holder should be a minimum of time served via a validated apprenticeship or equivalent (NVQ 3/4) and ideally they should have experience of performing electrical /instrumentation duties in the Chemical or Petrochemical Industries.
Key Responsibilities, Accountabilities, Skills and Experience:
To follow company electrical isolation practices to mechanical and electrical maintenance.
To be able to 'test for dead' for 'permits to work' and safe work.
To be adaptable in their role and assess priority work against routine schedules.
To respond to out of hours emergency call in where appropriate.
To advise others on local electrical maintenance matters.
Liaise directly with managers and engineers regarding production/operation issues.
Proactive in fault finding and other general maintenance.
Pro actively identify plant improvement opportunities.
Carry out portable electrical appliance testing and RCDs and EMLs.
Monitor asset integrity and highlight improvements to the asset engineer.

A good understanding of electrical/instrument schematic/loop drawings, etc.
Use test equipment to test, fault find and calibrate Electrical and Instrument systems. Be familiar and have worked on instruments to measure:- pressure, level, flow, temperature and gas detection.
- High level of commitment to safety, health and the environment and effective work performance.
- Educated to HNC level or equivalent in a Electrical/Instrumentaion discipline.
- Experienced working in high hazard environments (COMAH).
- Fully conversant with change management processes and able to read drawings and provide relevant documentation.
- An understanding of the various PVC production processes is preferable.
- High standards of work and attention to detail; good thinking and diagnostic skills.
- Team player with a flexible approach to work. Able to work alone using own initiative and take the lead where required.
