Organizational context and job purpose
INEOS has implemented a market leading strategy to capture advantaged US NGL feedstock into its European facilities in Norway, Scotland and Germany through infrastructure investment and commitment to long term supply, terminal and shipping agreements. In 2026 INEOS will expand this strategy when it commences operation of its new world scale ethane cracker in Antwerp, Belgium. In order to supply this growing demand, INEOS has made significant investments into one of the largest dedicated ethane shipping fleets in the world. It is also an anchor shipper on two US export facilities, which have been operating since 2016. This strategy has been developed and executed through the INEOS Trading and Shipping team.
How the Role Fits in:
The Commercial Manager for NGL Exports is responsible for supporting and implementing the export feedstock strategy for INEOS facilities worldwide, working with the INEOS Trading and Shipping Team while ensuring alignment with the US feedstock supply team.
The Main Purpose of the Role:
The Commercial Manager acts as face to the market in the US for supply and terminal operations, contract negotiation and, administration and business development. The Commercial Manager is also responsible for leading the US NGL Export Team and its associated trading activity. The role will report directly to the VP Olefins, Supply (board level role) in the O&P USA Business, with a functional link to the Director of Strategic Supply (board level role) in INEOS Trading and Shipping.
Responsibilities AND Accountabilities
Accountability 1: Manage US export team to ensure reliable supply
- Manage day to day trading and operations including spot transactions, planning, scheduling and nominations to ensure timely loading of ships at Northeast and Gulf Coast terminals
- Drive the team to develop strong spot market presence and ensure transactions completed to manage daily/monthly supply/demand imbalances
- Ensure all regulatory reporting completed in a timely manner
- Ensure timely and effective communication with key stakeholders including suppliers, terminal operators, INEOS Trading and Shipping and US Supply Team.
Accountability 2: Secure competitively priced reliable feedstock supply
- Negotiate long term NGL supply contracts
- Influence senior level employees of key suppliers to obtain competitive pricing and reliable supply
- Optimize assets and contracts to add value and reduce overall supply costs
- Administer long term contracts and effectively manage third party relationships
Accountability 3: Develop new business opportunities aligned with European and US supply strategies
- Provide market intelligence to support ongoing supply activities
- Support European and US teams in developing and implementing strategies to support growth of feedstock requirements
Accountability 4: Risk Management dealing with Shale originated deals:
- Provide Opportunities for overall risk management
- Identify and evaluate trading opportunities
- Direct hedging and risk management activities to ensure compliance with risk limits
- Ensure compliance with delegation of authority and risk management policies
Accountability 5: Represent INEOS at various Shale conferences/speaker opportunities
- Interact with and influence senior level employees of other companies to identify business opportunities and promote INEOS
- Communicate Information gathered to the appropriate stakeholders with analysis
Accountability 6: Utilize overall INEOS understanding to exploit global synergies
- Facilitate internal communication between groups within INEOS to evaluate feasibility of new business opportunities
- Provide input on critical assumptions and assist in the development of economic models used to evaluate projects and submit proposals for approval from senior INEOS management
Accountability 7: Serve as single point of accountability for key infrastructure projects.
Skills & Knowledge Required
Education/Experience
Level of education & Experience in general
- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, science or business required
- At least ten years of broad-based experience in the chemical industry and Natural Gas Liquids
- 10+ years of experience in supply, deep level of understanding
- 10+ years of experience with negotiating and administering supply, logistics and exchange agreements
- Knowledge of the North American NGL infrastructure and market fundamentals
- Track record of commercial delivery within an international business
Skills and Competencies
Technical skills
- Thorough understanding of commercial operations, sales, business systems, finance, accounting, and contract law
- Good understanding of the concepts and practice of price-exposure management
- Ability to understand detailed technical features of the Petrochemical Industry (Upstream, Feedstocks, and Logistics)
- Project Management experience
