Commercial Deputy General Manager, SECCO

Context

O&P Asia is the newest INEOS business and is rapidly evolving. 

In 2022, INEOS acquired 50% of Shanghai SECCO Petrochemical Company Limited from Sinopec. SECCO has a capacity of 4.2 million tonnes of petrochemicals including ethylene, propylene, polyethylene, polypropylene, styrene, polystyrene, acrylonitrile, butadiene, benzene, toluene and by-products.

INEOS and SINOPEC now operate and manage SECCO as a 50:50 JV.

This is a unique opportunity to influence that JV in its Commercial activities, with a high level of personal exposure and accountability

Accountabilities

General responsibilities:

  • Support the Commercial GM in managing all commercial activities of the business.
  • Represent INEOS as a shareholder in the management team of the business in defining and implementing the commercial strategy.

Accountabilities:

  • To support the Commercial GM in producing an annual sales and marketing plan for each SECCO product for inclusion in the Business Plan and ensuring that sales plans are achieved both as to volumes and margins. 
  • Ensure that the business planning process is optimizing the margin generation for the business, continually seeking to gain optimization benefits.
  • Coordinate with O&P Asia and TPCC (Tianjin) to ensure optimization is achieved for all products in the Asian region.
  • Interact with INEOS Europe to develop and optimize export sales opportunities for SECCO products.
  • Coordinate with the INEOS Europe and US businesses as appropriate, for eg with O&P regarding product improvements and polymer grade optimization opportunities. 
  • Ensure that sustainability objectives are agreed and actions taken to develop appropriate action plans and reporting.
  • Be responsible if appropriate for one product group within the business for day-to-day sales, marketing, pricing, credit performance and customer relationships.
  • Ensure that sustainability action plans are progressed in line with agreed targets.

Required profile

  • Knowledge & Education Background: Bachelor or Master’s degree with majoring in chemistry, chemical engineering, economics or a commercial discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Business or Business Development Manager, Senior Product Manager or Sales Manager.
  • Previous cracker product or polymer marketing background will be an additional asset.
  • Track record showing delivery of performance.
  • Self-starting individual with strong interpersonal and influencing skills and the ability to build relevant relationships and networks.
  • Excellent teamwork skills including the ability to build effective teams, motivate and develop individuals, be a positive influencer, decisive and change orientated.
  • Culturally aware, able to recognize and value different paradigms and approaches to delivery.
  • Fluent in English with also any knowledge of mandarin a clear advantage.

Behavioral skills:

  • The position carries special importance in that the role works through the Commercial GM, but ensuring that the INEOS objectives, ambitions and strategic ideas are tabled and included in developing and implementing business strategy. The need is therefore very much for a team player, but one who likes to work through, and to influence, others to ensure delivery of the preferred objectives.
