Organizational Context and Job Purpose
Business Context
The O&P USA business includes the product lines Ethylene, Propylene, Butadiene, Polypropylene and High Density Polyethylene. Manufacturing sites include Chocolate Bayou Works (Alvin, TX), Battleground Manufacturing Complex (LA Porte, TX), and Carson, (Carson, CA), with a division office in League City, TX.
The Main Purpose of the Role
The Yield Optimization Engineer ensures proper delivery, compliance, and communication processes for the commercial related activities supporting the supply of feedstock/product to the INEOS Olefins & Polymers assets. The position manages INEOS resources to coordinate inventories, and deliveries to/from customers to deliver commercial strategy. The role utilizes engineering competencies to optimize, when possible, to meet business goals. This role requires the ability to set priorities to timely capture and mitigate risks emerging from operations or from the execution of commercial options. The position requires the competency to lead technical and operational professionals by influence toward the achievement of business goals and management of rapidly changing priorities to meet the site performance contract. The role is the owner of the site material balance and is responsible for daily and monthly accounting/closing activities. The Yield Optimization Engineer reports to the Utilities/Infrastructure Resource Team Leader.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ)
Promote, ensure and sustain commitment to operate assets with no harm to people and to the environment by visibly demonstrating Safety Leadership
Support assets’ SHE activities, meetings, and inspections to ensure the assets’ compliance with plant policies and procedures, OSHA, PSM, DOT, EPA, RRCT and US Coast Guard
Ensure completion of relevant Management of Change (MOC) and Gensuite action items.
Support quality management process and provide oversight to the day-to-day activities of the feedstocks/products to ensure the materials produced and feedstocks received meet or exceed the established and agreed requirements
Engage with operations and lab resources to assist in troubleshooting quality concerns
Support SHE compliance audits
Financial
Leads data gathering and coordination with financial and commercial team to complete and issue End of Month closing for products and feedstocks.
Responsible for providing closing data for internal on-site customer term sheets and monitoring performance within contractual boundaries
Monitor and assist with communications to internal on-site parties for capital recovery efforts
Works with finance to troubleshoot any discrepancies and adjustments needed at closing
Optimization
Interacts with dispatchers, Operations teams, pipeline operators, customers, and commercial team to ensure the safely, timely, and accurate delivery of feedstocks/products to customers
Interfaces with Commercial and Operations team to establish and execute production plan
Supports and enhances Aspen Tech tools and feedstock movement tools to drive optimization, troubleshooting, and planning to minimize exposures from operational deviations and maximize revenue.
Responsible for maintaining the site material balance including daily balancing activities and internal customer streams (i.e. hydrocarbon vents, feedstocks, etc.)
Continue to develop new tools and processes to streamline scheduling, tracking, and accuracy on material balances
Supports the Operations team and commercial in the management of feedstock forecast and allocation based on business drivers and contract requirements
Monitors and drives accountability in the execution of planning/scheduling instructions from internal and external customers
Engages and influences operations teams, customers, dispatchers and commercial team to support, identify and drive improvement opportunities in the material balances and management of deviations.
Expands process knowledge to leverage decisions and enable positive impact on operations and business process
Supports capital/long term projects
Leadership
Effectively communicate to the resource team and the operations organization deliverables and requirements to support business goals
Coordinate and influence communication unilaterally through correct organizational structure such as Shift Superintendents, WTLs, etc.
Lead by influence the resources available within the organization and the CBW site to assure objectives/goals are delivered
Step-up for Utilities/Infrastructure Resource Team Leader as required
Skills and Knowledge Required
Education and experience
Engineering degree or equivalent/relevant manufacturing experience required.
Five (5) years of experience in engineering and/or manufacturing environment with proven track record in the area of scheduling, planning and optimization.
