Organizational context and job purpose

INEOS Phenol is the world’s largest producer of phenol and acetone with an annual manufacturing capacity of over 3 million tonnes per annum. The Accounting/Finance department is a support service for INEOS Phenol USA operations, acting as advisors, by providing timely, accurate financial information in a professional manner.  Each team member is expected to work with a sense of urgency, developing habits and improving processes to make workflows simpler and improve transaction processing.  Each team member is expected to work with confidence that will allow for the Accounting/Finance department to provide the best service in the least amount of time for the purpose of increasing the financial strength of INEOS Phenol and INEOS Group Companies. The Business Analyst is primarily focused on the profit and loss portion of the financial statements in addition to strategic planning and analysis.  This position is responsible for managing the budgeting and forecasting process for profitability monitoring and providing data to senior management to aid in driving key business decisions.  This position conducts investigations and research complex financial situations to aid in providing the commercial and operational departments with information and analysis that will challenge and encourage improvements of the business results.  This position is expected to continuously review existing systems and procedures and recommend improvements, which ensure accuracy of financial data.

Responsibilities AND Accountabilities

  • Act as Champion for the INEOS 20 Safety Principles
  • Develop a knowledge base by building history and an understanding of the business to help drive strategic analysis and business models that will help drive decisions and promote improvements in assimilating information throughout the organization.
  • Responsible for validating and analyzing the profit/loss statement components with the aim of advising senior management and making recommendations that drive decisions to control expenditures within set targets and improve key performance indicators (KPI).
  • Responsible for preparing and distributing monthly internal financial reporting (KPI tracking, Scorecard reporting, I/S, C/F, etc.) along with commentary to explain the results.
  • Responsible for assessing customers (developing a scorecard per a thorough F/S analysis) and making credit limit recommendations to management.
  • Coordinates/plans activities relating to the preparation of the budget, forecasts (EBITDA, Cash), strategic planning and analysis.
  • Owner of the forecast and planning process with the emphasis of challenging the numbers and developing a process that provide information, “not just data”, which drives improvements for information assimilation and communication, thereof.
  • Expected to develop tools and models, with the use of the latest technology, that will improve the way data is gathered and processed to develop information for strategic decision making (The aim is to improve the mechanism(s) for gathering data, along with the accuracy of reporting information).
  • Develop analyses that challenges plant operations and management to improve performance and profitability that promotes cost control and EBITDA growth.
  • Responsible for analyzing and investigating month-end results and explaining variances versus the targets (forecast/budget); giving reasons why the numbers are different than expected by providing insight from a commercial and/or operational perspective.
  • Responsible for managing the IFRS16 lease accounting and reporting process. The business uses a tool called Nakisa, which requires periodic maintenance to ensure the reporting is accurate and timely.
  • Recommends policy/procedure updates to improve the finance department’s support of other department groups within the business.
  • Miscellaneous ad hoc projects to support the business initiatives for growth, expansion, or other areas of improvement.

Skills & Knowledge Required

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA) in Finance or Accounting from four-year college or university; and
  • Five (5) to seven (7) years related experience and/or training; or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • MBA/CPA preferred

Skills/Competencies

  • Must be able to communicate proactively with all levels of management and effectively present information, write reports and respond to questions from all levels of the business.
  • Good understanding of business context and advanced analytical skills with attention to details.
  • Ability to identify and improve deficient processes.
  • Openness and willingness to develop and implement new methods and procedures.
  • Advanced MS Office skills, especially Excel, are required as well as strong general PC skills with very good knowledge of SAP. Knowledge of Power Query and Power BI preferable.
  • Ability to work in a team and well-developed interpersonal skills.

Physical Requirements

Sedentary Work:  Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
