You will be based at the Hull site, which is the largest producer of acetic acid, acetic anhydride, and ethyl acetate in Europe. The products we produce are essential building blocks used in almost every industry, including renewable power, automotive, pharmaceuticals, coatings, and textiles.  

Hull is also home to the business's global Technology Development and Support Team and is based on the 370-acre Saltend Chemicals Park - a cluster of world-class chemicals and renewable energy businesses at the heart of the UK's energy estuary.

The opportunity  

The purpose of this job is to perform routine laboratory analysis for the Hull site manufacturing assets as part of a team of rota technicians. Testing the quality of feedstocks, process and final product samples against defined specifications enabling the manufacturing assets to maintain operations and final products to be sold.

Key accountabilities 

As an Analytical Technician you will be required to comply with all SHE requirements within the analytical laboratory and contribute to the development of an SHE culture fully aligned with the goals of INEOS Acetyls Hull. You will be required to maintain focus on personal safety and the safety of others, following all SHE procedures and responding appropriately to emergencies. 

You will interact with analytical chemists and manufacturing technicians and engineers using laboratory knowledge and experience to execute experimental programs that meet requirements of stakeholders. You will take personal responsibility for the quality of data generated and recorded, complying with local QA systems and data storage standards.  

You will perform preventative maintenance including calibration and troubleshooting of equipment and you will oversee corrective actions and operational improvements as required. You may be required to train new members of the team as needed and will have responsibility for ordering routine chemicals and consumable items for the team. 

About you 

To be successful you will need to be qualified to with HNC or equivalent as a minimum, with a significant chemistry content. You will have relevant industrial experience with proficiency in working across several routine analytical capabilities such as Karl Fischer, freezing point, pH measurement, titration, chromatography. 

The ability to record and enter detailed information accurately in IT systems is essential so you will be IT literate and comfortable working with required IT systems, such as Laboratory Information Data Systems and chromatography data systems. Proficiency in additional capabilities such as Elemental Analysis, Environmental analysis, Industrial Hygiene including personnel monitoring would be an advantage, as would the ability to work at height when required as well as forklift truck driving. 

As an experienced team player, you will be a strong communicator with effective networking skills and the ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders. You will have strong teamworking skills with the willingness to develop the overall team performance and contribute to the success of the team, fostering learning, sharing of ideas, and building capability. 

You will work flexibly across several analytical work programs to meet the changing needs of stakeholders whilst applying appropriate day-to-day work prioritisation and be comfortable working autonomously.
