We’re looking for an Analytical Scientist to join the INEOS Acetyls team. We need highly motivated individuals who want to be part of our growing business.
INEOS Acetyls is a global chemicals business producing acetic acid and a range of derivatives across Europe, Asia, and America. We’re part of INEOS - one of the largest petrochemical companies in the world, employing around 26,000 people across 194 sites in 29 countries.
You will be based at the Hull site, which is the largest producer of acetic acid, acetic anhydride, and ethyl acetate in Europe. The products we produce are essential building blocks used in almost every industry, including renewable power, automotive, pharmaceuticals, coatings, and textiles.
Hull is also home to the business's global Technology Development and Support Team and is based on the 370-acre Saltend Chemicals Park - a cluster of world-class chemicals and renewable energy businesses at the heart of the UK's energy estuary.

The opportunity
This role will work as part of a flexible laboratory-based team delivering value through the targeted application of analytical technologies in both laboratory and process environments. You will be responsible for leading the delivery of both general and specialist analytical capabilities in a timely and cost-efficient manner while ensuring data quality. Identifying opportunities to create value and solve real world challenges as part of multi-disciplinary teams will be key to success in the role. Key accountabilities
- Support the development of analytical science to meet the existing and future needs of Ineos Acetyls Manufacturing teams in Hull and its global assets.
- Assist the development of analytical techniques to support research programs and our customers.
- Provide analytical chemistry advice including troubleshooting assistance.
- Support the training of laboratory technicians in the execution of analytical techniques and analysis.
- Take a lead in all HSSE issues within the analytical laboratory and contribute to the development of an HSSE culture fully aligned with the goals of Ineos Acetyls.
- Support customers to understand their specific analytical requirements and then assist the execution of the agreed analytical programme.
- Ensure the quality, standard and timeliness of work carried out meets regulatory and customer expectations and take proactive steps to deal with issues where they occur.
About you
To be successful in this role you will need an MSc in chemistry or analytical chemistry with substantial industrial experience and a strong understanding of a wide range of analytical technique areas and their application to industrial manufacturing processes.
A deep knowledge of the industrial process chemistry including catalysis is essential along with an understanding of the main business drivers and opportunities for process development.
A demonstrated ability to develop new analytical techniques and an understanding of project processes with experience of major capital projects would be an advantage.
You will have an appreciation of process, mechanical, materials and engineering disciplines and experience of working in multidisciplinary teams with a strong business and commercial acumen.
The ability to prioritise and set clear direction and boundaries, along with a demonstrated ability to think innovatively and provide creative solutions is also essential.
