Air Separation Unit Operator

About the Role

As an ASU Operator, you will execute principle responsibilities to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operation of our continuous chemical manufacturing process in accordance with local and national regulations and standards. You will also execute maintenance activities (preventive, corrective and predictive).

  • Ensure proper communication of any necessary information to the next shift Operator including possible safety, production, or personnel issues
  • Record any activities, accomplishments, and significant information needed by the following crew of the Department Management in a logbook
  • Assist in the review and upgrade of the ASU Operating Instructions, SHE Guidelines, and other written procedures as required
  • Monitor in-process product quality results an initiate the necessary adjustments to maintain production at the target analysis
  • Load and unload transportation trucks and interact with truck drivers, several a day at times.
  • Perform troubleshooting and minor maintenance of equipment as necessary. 
  • Perform operator rounds of the plant and ensure the housekeeping is excellent at all times.
  • Monitor Maintenance activity in the Operating Areas.  Assist the Supervisor in the direction of the personnel and may include signing of work permits, preparation of equipment for maintenance
  • Monitor the Back-up systems during shutdown or start-up to ensure the pipelines are supplying products as needed in a safe and timely manner 
  • Ensures all accidents and/or injuries are reported in a timely manner
  • Assist the Supervisor in maintaining the Safety Performance of the ASU on assigned shift including compliance with SHE Guidelines, Plant Safety Rules and Quality Standards
  • Assist the Supervisor in maintaining housekeeping to ensure that a high standard, compatible with corporate polices, is maintained
  • Interact with the Supervisor on an as needed basis to ensure proper communication of the Department goals or direction to the work group
  • Communicate to the Supervisor, any operational problems or deficiencies that may result in a potential safety concern or impact the system operation or quality
  • Other duties as assigned
 

About You

You should possess:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. 
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in manufacturing, construction trades or military
  • Ability to foster the development of other team members.
  • Experience working in a chemical plant
  • Working knowledge of Plant Safety and Operating Procedures in addition to the Maintenance Work Order and Scheduling systems.
  • Computer literate
  • Experience with SAP, DCS systems, and Windows based applications
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Physically capable of wearing personal protective equipment
  • Must be able to work in a noisy environment
  • Must be able to work rotating shift schedule
  • Physically capable of climbing stairs & ladders
  • Must be able to open and close valves of various sizes
  • Able to work in outdoor environment in all seasonal weather extremes
  • Must be able to work Overtime
  • Experience working with various tools and machinery
  • Mechanically inclined
  • Ability to operate a tow motor and other mobile equipment
  • Demonstrated ability to learn (past job progression)
  • Ability to work with minimal direction

Schedule/Hours

This is a salaried, non-exempt, 12-hour shift position.  Base salary is $65,000/year ($31.25 per hour).
