Upstream Risk & Insurance Manager

INEOS Energy is recently formed group of INEOS, combining the existing INEOS Oil and Gas businesses with the extensive development activities that the company has in developing low carbon technologies for the coming energy transition.

INEOS Energy holds a number of key interests in the North Sea. Key fields are Ormen Lange, Laggan-Tormore, Syd Arne, Siri, Breagh and Clipper South. The successful candidate will guide the business in the identification of INEOS’ insurable risks and transferring the risks we do not wish to retain, via insurance, or contract negotiations with contractors and third parties.

The role will have a dual reporting line into Group Insurance and the INEOS Energy business, and will primarily manage all classes of insurance relevant to the Upstream business. In addition, the successful candidate will also be required to handle insurances for some of INEOS’ new brands and ventures.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Take ownership of all insurance and risk related matters for the Upstream business
  • Articulate the Group position on insurances with confidence to the business, financiers, third party legal representatives and contractors
  • Challenge the cover purchased, the risks retained and the retention strategy
  • Gather, verify, challenge and present renewal information to the business, brokers and insurers
  • Manage premium allocations across the business and internal invoicing with brokers and insurers
  • Provide guidance and input to legal, commercial and CFOs during contract negotiations, specifically to ensure content is commercially acceptable with regard to indemnity discussions with third parties
  • Undertake insurance due diligence for relevant merger and acquisition activity
  • Guide and educate the relevant businesses about risk and insurance including scope of cover, budgeting for insurance and the claims process
  • Build and develop strong working relationships with stakeholders both inside and outside the business

Skills & Knowledge Required

  • Significant previous experience working in insurance within a risk management, insurance, commercial or accounting role.
  • Upstream experience is essential
  • Degree in Finance, Legal or insurance discipline required
  • ACII qualified or working towards qualification
  • Ability to build and develop effective working relationships with a wide range of people within the business
  • Results orientated, conscientious with a strong work ethic and can-do attitude
  • Ability to work under significant time pressure and still deliver a reasoned outcome
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Commercially astute and cost focused
  • Have a structured and well-organised approach to work
  • Strong team player
