The Position:
The Bulk Terminal Operator supplies the compounding production lines with intermediate polymers from product silos, bulk trucks or hopper cars. Much of the finished goods material movement (off the production lines or from production units) is directed by the Bulk Operator. Management (loading and shipping papers) of daily finished goods shipments, to INEOS customers via Bulk Truck or Bulk Rail, is also a primary responsibility. The jobjolder is also required to be a member of the INEOS Emergency Brigade.
INEOS ABS is an affiliate of INEOS Styrolution, with both companies being wholly-owned by INEOS AG. The INEOS ABS manufacturing facility produces plastic polymers and is located in Addyston, OH, just outside of Cincinnati, OH.
Responsibilities & Accountabilities
- Responsible for personal safety and product quality.
- Follow the production schedule and supply the Compounding Lines with the correct intermediate polymers from Product Silos, Bulk Trucks, or Hopper Cars.
- Move silo/hopper material as needed and maintain Silo Inventory Log sheets.
- Keep the Hopper Car Logistics Database updated.
- Keep Convey Logs and Load Sheets accurate and routinely turned into the shipping clerks.
- Follow the shipping schedule to load the correct material for day’s finished goods shipments to INEOS customers.
- Inspect the Shipper’s trailers for cleanliness before loading and complete and send the required Shipping Papers with the Driver.
- During the shift, perform daily safety walk throughs and report/log findings per instructions.
- Visually inspect and troubleshoot equipment problems for blowers, feeders, pumps, convey lines, etc.
- Work with the Maintenance department to get equipment in suitable working condition. This includes preparing equipment to be worked on (lock out / line break etc.) as well as guiding Maintenance to equipment location and initiating/completing necessary permits.
- Perform minor maintenance on area equipment.
- Utilize PLC’s.
- Responsible for Manual Convey hook ups.
- Line hook-up, loading or unloading, product sampling, and proper tagging and sealing of intermediates or finished product onto Bulk Trucks or Railcars.
- Take product samples and log them into the computer. Communicate with Lab and Supervision about sample results.
- Properly flush convey lines and overhead hoppers to avoid product cross contamination.
- Change fines filters and collections boxes as needed.
- Monitor Gravity Blender levels and transfers to the Hold Hopper.
- Operate Bead Crusher as requested.
- Warehouse utility box dumping as needed or requested for production and/or to keep the bays orderly.
- Drive a Shuttle Wagon to retrieve and position Railcars.
- Drive a Fork Truck when needed.
- Work from both verbal and written instructions of Team Leader, Shift Coach, standard operating procedures, etc.
- Assists in performing safety reviews, safety audits, incident investigations, and participates in the safety suggestion program.
- Participate in daily maintenance meetings and safety meetings.
- Participate in and complete all required safety training in a timely manor.
- Maintain good housekeeping in work areas and assist in general cleanup as needed or assigned.
- Attendance and a punctual employee presence are essential.
- Perform other duties as assigned which may not be specifically listed in the position description, but which are within the general occupational series and responsibility level typically associated with the employee’s skills classification of work.
- Duties and responsibilities are subject to change based on the review and changes of business necessity.
Training, Skills & Knowledge Required
- High school diploma or equivalent education and a minimum of 6 months in a production, maintenance, or terminal environment.
- Must take a WorkKeys Skills Test and pass a post offer physical, drug screen, background check, and be fully vaccinated for COVID 19.
- Must pass qualification testing and “walk-throughs” within a reasonable period of time.
- Ability to multitask and work independently with minimum supervision.
- Ability to work well in a team environment with diverse groups.
- Good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to thoroughly understand and follow complex work procedures.
- Good analytical skills. Demonstrated computer skills. Strong math skills.
- Satisfactory completion of unit-defined on-the-job-training certification/qualification, safety training, and all other legally mandated training.
- Complete and maintain INEOS Forklift Driving Certification.
Physical Requirements, Visual Acuity and Environmental Factors
- Must be able to frequently work outside, walk on uneven surfaces, ascend and descend stairs (to top of product silos or building rooftops), turn valve/wrench handles, work on wet or damp walking or work surfaces, operate plant vehicles and be exposed to chemicals, such as Butadiene, Acrylonitrile, Styrene, and Maleic Anhydride (may require ½ face respirator, full face respirator, SCBA or PAPR as needed.
- Must be able to occasionally sit, ascend and descend caged ladders, bend, stoop, twist, kneel / crouch / crawl, reach above shoulder height, reach at or below shoulder height, work in extreme cold or heat, high noise levels over 85 Db, use vibratory tools, work at heights (rooftops and silos), around dusts / mists / fumes and with automated machinery.
- Must be able to infrequently stand, practice repetitive motion, utilize fine manual dexterity, work in cramped quarters and do confined space entry.
- This position is considered a “safety critical job”, which requires continuous study (SOP’s, Training Manuals, procedural updates), for the employee to be always alert, able to concentrate on their task at hand, and not impaired by medications (prescription, non-prescription, illegal or legal substances including alcohol), or any other mental condition which adversely affects alertness, concentration, or judgment.
