Organizational Context and Job Purpose
INEOS Nitriles is a global chemicals business with sales volume of 1200 kte and revenue in excess of $3 billion. The Nitriles business has 2 manufacturing operations in the US and 1 in Europe along with offices and headquarters in Rolle, Switzerland and Aurora, Illinois near Chicago. The Nitriles Business primary products include acrylonitrile, hydrogen cyanide, and acetonitrile.
Additionally, Nitriles also has a manufacturing operation that produces catalyst for internal use at the Lima Site, globally within Ineos, and for other Acrylonitrile producers. The INEOS Nitriles Plant at Lima is part of an industrial campus which includes a refinery and chemical complex. INEOS share services, utilities, products, and feedstocks with four adjacent manufacturing facilities: Nutrien (ammonia, urea, nitric acid), Fort Amanda Specialties (chelates), Ashland (1,4-butanediol), and Cenovus Refining (propylene, fuels, and refined oil products).

Responsibilities AND Accountabilities
The successful candidate will control unit equipment or systems that process chemical substances into specified products, according to established operating procedures, laboratory test results, and process instrumentation. Observe and compile data from either field instruments or from a distributive control system to control numerous temperatures, pressures, levels and flows throughout the process to control the operation within specified safe and productive limits. Perform laboratory testing on process streams using various types of equipment to determine process status.
Position entails working rotating 12-hour shifts, including overtime, weekends, and holidays in the plant operations area. This position will be trained for the Emergency Response Team.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to perform duties and climb stairs while wearing 35 lb Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and fully enclosed Hazardous Chemical Suit for 30 minutes at a time.
- Ability to climb fixed vertical ladder cages at heights up to 30 ft. to a total of 200 ft. (Ladder cages provide rest stop every 30 ft.).
- Ability to climb 6 flights of stairs carrying a weighted object, i.e. Fire Extinguisher. Ability to open/close large valves. Ability to enter enclosed spaces through 18” man-way, for rescue and permitting purposes.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Able to pull approximately 100 lbs.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment: FRC, hard hat, safety glasses, chemical goggles, faces shield, rigid safety shoes/boots, and full face cartridge masks.
- Ability to perform Emergency Response duties.
- Ability to safely work with hazardous chemicals according to facility policies and procedures.
- Ability to work a rotating 12 hour shift with periodic overtime. Must be able to work outdoors/inclement weather.
- Job specific: climbing, balance, stoop/bend, kneel, squat, crouch, crawl, lift, carry, endurance, push/pulling.
- Must be able to tolerate confined spaces and work at heights.
- Must possess valid driver’s license.
- Need to evaluate understanding of proper lifting techniques and body mechanics - to be done by any fitness for duty evaluations.
Skills & Knowledge Required
Education/Experience
- HS diploma or GED required. Two-year technical degree preferred. Must have a history of high job performance. Prior manufacturing or process experience, training, and higher education are a plus.
Skills/Competencies
- Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills a must.
- Mechanical aptitude, a strong sense of teamwork and excellent work ethic a must.
- Experience with common personal and business computer software is a plus.
