Technician- QC - Days - Newton Aycliffe Site

Main role purpose:
The post holder is responsible for the environmental testing of effluent streams, monitoring of personal hygiene (dust), and the calibration of laboratory equipment. The post holder also provides tanker loading services to operations on weekends and bank holidays.

 

Key responsibilities & accountabilities:

  • Obtain samples and complete the environmental test schedule to meet the requirements for reporting to the EA and ECVM. Record the results in the LIM system and inform the shift manager and operations management of any excursions above warning and agreed limit.
  • Ensure the personal dust monitoring programme is completed to the agreed schedule.
  • Perform calibrations on all laboratory equipment and maintain all necessary records.
  • Provide prolonged absence cover of the QC shift technicians by dropping onto the 24/7 shift pattern with minimal notice.
  • Provide a tanker loading service to operations on weekends and bank holidays.


Key skills & experience:

  • A good general education, preferably 5 GCSE passes including science, maths and English.
  • Fork-lift truck license.
  • High concern for standards and SHE; able to work safely and with the minimum of supervision; adaptable and flexible.
  • Practical aptitude and able to complete work programmes to a successful conclusion: able to solve minor equipment problems.
  • Good oral and written communication skills; good attention to detail.
  • Good level of fitness and attendance record.
