Technical Product Manager ABS Asia-Pacific

Providing technical expertise, the Technical Product Manager is responsible for the active life cycle management of the product lines in charge (product / application developments, cost optimization, patents etc.) incl. full recipe responsibility, product development such as Terluran ECO for instance, and is the focal point for all technical, quality, and innovation related topics, assigned to and focused on ABS Standard products.

Accountabilities of the job

  1. Comply with Company guidelines and policies:
  • SHE excellence: zero first aids, recordables and LTIs
  • Respect internal DOA and policies.
  1. Market Intelligence:
  • Monitor and analyze market needs, industry trends, supply/demand
  • Collect competitors’ information regarding product portfolio, product positioning, technical developments.
  • Secure intellectual properties (e.g. by patent applications)
  • Perform internal or external technical seminars (e.g. customer events) Internal & external technical representation for respective product line (presentations, publishing, web site content etc.)
  1. Product Management:
  • Active life cycle / portfolio management with focus on target countries/market requirements in line with Styrolution` strategy jointly with Commercial Product Manager and the Sales Team. Ensuring product quality according to market needs.
  • Develop Terluran ECO production modes in Asia Pacific. Collaborate with the ABS Commercial Product Manager, Sales Teams, RDC, SCM, to insure smooth production/supply of Terluran ECO at lowest financial risk.
  • Full recipe responsibility for products in charge, including Terluran ECO.
  • Cost optimization of product recipes and production processes.
  • Optimize product portfolio to maximize effective capacity and operational efficiency
  • Support cost reduction activities in terms of RM diversification and other variable cost optimization
  • Manage new product development to generate new business opportunities
  • Manage product specification, product safety and product quality complaint in cooperation with Commercial Product Manager, QC, and Product stewardship
  • Coordinate technical service support to sales teams and agency companies
  • Support inter-regional activities with Europe and Americas with regards to technical product developments
  1. Business Management:
  • Collaborate in and support of the production process for new or modified applications.
  • Work with R&D, GTO, RDC, QM, Manufacturing to improve products in line with business needs and customers’ trends.
  • Safeguard EHS standards: evaluate EHS consequences of any modification, with product stewardship experts make sure that business unit processes and products fulfill all regulatory requirements, ensure proper documentation and tracking
  • Support Key Accounts (Covestro, HP, Samsung, Mattel…) management with KAMs with regards to technical product management.
  • Application development, feasibility assessment and troubleshooting on customer sites in close collaboration with technical experts (e.g. from R&D).
  • Preparation of solid business cases including a thorough product positioning.
  • Support Ningbo ABS (Kaimen) marketing strategy.

Required profile

Level of education & Experience in general

  • University degree in chemical engineering or similar (Master or PhD degree preferred)
  • 5+ years of experience in the Chemical Industry, especially technical roles
  • Project management experience

Technical skills

  • IT, English, some Asian languages would be a plus
  • Professional understanding chemical industry and polymer markets
  • Understanding of the polymerization processes, properties and performance of various polymers during transformation and in use in a variety of applications
