A truly global company, INEOS is one of the world’s largest chemical companies. Due to establishing a new Centralised Turnaround [TAR] Team we are now looking for an experienced Machinery Engineer with relevant experience to play a key role in the engineering support and maintenance of our Grangemouth assets.

Job Purpose

  • To provide specialist rotating equipment support to Machinery team in the specification of asset repairs, turnarounds, management of plant surveys and development & implementation of Asset Care Policies
  • Special focus on Pump packages comprising: Pump, prime mover, any associated gearboxes, lubricating oil system, bearings, pump sealing system, control system, vibration and temperature protection systems.

Principle Accountabilities

  • Review & challenge asset care policies, to determine minimum required work scope and spares required to perform overhaul. The scope should be set to achieve asset reliability targets between TAR events and avoid unplanned breakdowns.
  • Identify, defined and procure long lead spares and refurbishment scope for previously used spares
  • Define and deliver contract strategy for all rotating machinery to be overhauled at O&P TARS.  
  • This will include identification of the correct resources to execute the work to a high standard.
  • Work with TAR Planners and Vendors to produce detailed execution plans
  • Prepare TAR Machinery Workpacks
  • Define Quality requirements for machinery scopes
  • Lead the TAR Machinery team during execution events. This will require close collaboration with vendors to review machinery condition / set up. It will involve trouble-shooting on rotating equipment failures to establish root cause of failure and define improvements to design to eliminate faults.

Job Requirements

  • Some periods of inconvenience to support planned and unplanned plant outages may be required
  • Ability to deliver quickly under pressure

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills

  • Degree qualified in a mechanical discipline with substantial experience in a manufacturing industry and with plant maintenance experience.
  • Experience on a petrochemical or refining manufacturing facility including new plant commissioning, TAR planning and execution and problem solving on large steam turbines and centrifugal compressor trains, pumps, and reciprocating compressors.
  • Experience of successfully managing major machinery TAR workscope with a proven set of KPI’s to ensure successful TAR execution and commissioning.
  • Strong communication skills and networking abilities; a good understanding of manufacturing and commercial interdependencies and a strong ability to challenge established practice and to look for improvements.
  • The application of a good level of theoretical knowledge in an operating environment, covering the major machinery types e.g. centrifugal, axial and reciprocating compressors, pumps and steam turbines
  • Technical asset management and risk assessment, equipment strategy development and root cause failure analysis
  • Good understanding of the application of the Plant Modification process and associated documentation management systems
  • Commissioning and trouble-shooting machinery systems
  • Rotor dynamics and machinery performance calculations
  • Ability to work as part of a team and influence others
  • Ability to drive initiatives through to timely completion in an efficient & effective manner
  • Strong IT skills, experienced and competent user of Word, Excel, Maximo & Business Objects preferred
