Sr. Process Engineer

Are you an experienced Chemical Engineering interested in applying your knowledge and experience to our three unique chemical manufacturing processes?  We are looking for a Senior Process Engineer for our INEOS Joliet, IL plant.  The Senior Process Engineer provides a long-term strategic focus for the process technology on site.  Most of the Senior Process Engineer’s work will be the identification, development, refinement and execution of the process design scope for facility projects.  Projects include facility modifications as well as sustaining projects such as replacing fixed beds of catalyst.  The Senior Process Engineer will also help less experienced engineers at the facility troubleshoot difficult issues.  The Senior Process Engineer is expected to serve as a mentor and help teach the junior engineers “the craft of engineering” when working on a problem together.

In addition to our manufacturing plant in Joliet, IL (40 miles southwest of Chicago), we also have a domestic office in Wichita, as well as international offices in Europe and Asia to support the global sales and marketing of our three products.  INEOS Joliet is one of the newest businesses within the INEOS portfolio.  The INEOS Group is one of the world’s largest chemical companies comprising 19,000 employees at over 170 sites in 24 countries with an annual turnover of approximately $60 billion.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • 15+ years of experience as a chemical engineer in a refining or chemical facility.
  • Extensive experience applying the concepts of science and engineering to solve problems in a manufacturing plant.
  • Experience with all plant systems including piping, pressure vessels, instrumentation, control and electrical.
  • Experience with most unit operations found in a large petrochemical plant including reactors, distillation towers, fired heaters, boilers, heat exchangers, cooling water towers and pumps.
  • Working knowledge of the PHA process, Management of Change, pressure relief systems, and safety instrumented systems.
  • Conversant with all fundamental process engineering evaluations including material and energy balances, hydraulic calculations, vapor/liquid equilibrium calculations, heat transfer analysis and discounted cash flow analysis.
  • Experience applying industry and company standards to develop a project.
  • Experience with a PSM regulated facility.
  • Experience in a plant Operations role or working directly with Operations.

Familiarity with MS office and experience with engineering software including at least some experience with process simulation.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Intermediate or advanced experience with Aspen Plus process simulations.
  • Experience with owning and improving a program (such as Management of Change, relief system documentation or any other similar type of program).
  • Knowledge of typical engineering contracting and project execution practices.

  • Must display an owner’s attitude towards the site’s process technology and become the “go to” resource on the process technology in the areas assigned.
  • Must provide process engineering leadership in front end loading phases of assigned projects to ensure the process design that goes into detailed engineering is one that will successfully meet the objectives of the project.
  • Provide effective mentoring of less experienced Engineers on site when helping them with a problem in their area.
  • Clearly communicate to the rest of the organization findings, recommendations and points of view that have both a clear technical basis as well as the relevant business perspective.
