INEOS Trading & Shipping (ITS) trades almost 10 million tonnes of physical feedstock every year enabling other businesses within INEOS; in particular, four highly integrated and differentiated crackers of INEOS in Europe, to manufacture chemicals and polymers.
We have a growing shipping fleet under our control of 20 charter vessels, which includes the 27,500 cbm Dragon series of ships capable of transporting feedstock from the US to our cracker sites in Scotland and Norway. The shipping team transports more than 8 million tonnes of products per year with around 3000 movements per year across seaborne and inland routes.
We are currently looking for a Shipping Optimisation Manager (SOM) to join our organisation as part of a wider Operations Team. As a key member of the INEOS Trading & Shipping Team, the SOM is responsible for establishing safe and optimised feedstock shipping plans to maximise value from its fleet of chartered ships and barges. Ensuring vessels are fully utilised in the highest value way, whilst keeping crackers running and supporting delivery of maximum value to INEOS across the trading benches.
Role & Responsibilities
Establish safe and optimised feedstock shipping plans to ensure that INEOS obtains maximum value from its fleet of chartered ships and barges.
Ensure vessels are fully utilised in the highest value way, whilst keeping crackers running and supporting delivery of maximum EBITDA/cash across shipping, ethane, propane, butane & naphtha books.
Participate in monthly planning and optimisation processes.
Understand and seek to maximise the shipping P&L, as well as supporting forecasting process.
Set, maintain and own the shipping capacity and demand profile over 0-18 month horizon, identifying to chartering team and management when additional shipping capacity is required or existing capacity needs to be sub-chartered.
Work with chartering team to seek opportunities to optimise chartered vessels.
Identify and challenge with Traders, Chartering and Operations any flex in the existing contracts (including both on the term and spot chartering contracts and commercial deals)
Contribute to an active market call on shipping to support decision making (short and medium term).
React to (and seek to pre-empt) any change in price or incident that may have an impact on optimization.
Collect and scrutinize vessel performance data from long-term time charter partners (ship owners) and seek recommendations for improvement.
Ensure shipping aspects of SLAs are aligned with customer requirements at Sites and with Traders, Chartering and Operations team. Highlight any aspects and improvements to be actioned.
Work with chartering team and vessel owners to keep up to date with shipping sustainability and regulatory requirements, and support management with recommendations to improve vessel efficiency and sustainability performance.
Analyse and recommend options for current shipping capacity and assess requirements for future ships or barges.
Manage and highlight areas for improvement on the shipping key performance indicators (KPIs).
Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications:
- Degree qualified – very numerate.
- Strong track record of operations commercial delivery.
- Practitioner understanding of supply and demand balances.
- Ability to maintain effectiveness whilst under time and performance pressure.
- Innovative and creative thinking.
- Competent negotiating skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to challenge constructively and articulate issues.
- Resolution of internal conflict between Traders, Operations, sites and Chartering to deliver best value to the PnL
- Excellent communication skills, both in written and spoken word, are needed as the role requires the job holder to be able to communicate clearly with internal customers and third parties often under time constraints.
- Strong IT skills, particularly Excel.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work under extreme time constraint and considerable pressure, with confidence and courage. With ‘can do’ attitude.
- Keen eye for detail and ability to communicate complex situations effectively to management.
