The Location: This opportunity is located in Pasadena, Texas.

A. Purpose / Role of the job: Describe what contribution the job is expected to make to the organisation’s objectives

Directs the daily production activities of the shift teams by creating and maintaining a work environment that will permit employees to achieve goals in a manner that is consistent with the SHE principles of INEOS Styrolution through area ownership, team responsibility, and individual accountability.

B. Environment/Context/Complexity of the job: Describe the most important internal and external factors influencing the job

The most important aspect of this position is to ensure the safety of all personnel working in the production area.  Internal factors influencing this include the following: quality of training, procedures, and communication within the group, maintenance schedule and workload, unplanned downtime, and emergencies.  External factors influencing this include the following: weather, reliability of utilities (for example, power), INEOS Styrolution regional and/or global directives, and contractor performance and capability.

C. Responsibilities/ Accountabilities of the job: Describe the main results expected from the job

  • This position – and all positions - within the INEOS Styrolution organization requires that the incumbent commit to learning, following and practicing INEOS 20 Principles of Process and Behavioral Safety as applicable to the position. These are posted within each INEOS Styrolution facility.  Each employee must also commit to following INEOS’ Life-Saving rules on a daily basis. These rules are posted also within each INEOS Styrolution facility.  This position specifically will Champion these Principles and Life-Saving rules and be a role model to the organization
  • Maintains high standards of unit housekeeping per INEOS Styrolution Asset Care program.
  • Daily direct supervision of plant operations (10 operators per shift) activities in the ASA plant - including styrene acrylonitrile (SAN), rubber, compounding, utilities, OSBL, tank farm, and rail car movements/product loading.  Weekends, nights, and holidays supervision of lab technicians (2 per shift).
  • Effectively coordinates communication between ASA & EBSM plant operations groups at Bayport Site, as well as all ASA plant disciplines – maintenance, engineering, quality, SHE, etc.
  • Participates and supports incident investigations, Management of Change, Process Hazard Analysis, and all other aspects of PSM.
  • Supports and gives input into integrity management and reliability programs (criticality, bad actors, etc.).  Generates timely and detailed maintenance work notifications written for plant issues.
  • Ensure adherence to all general instructions, pre-startup checks, procedures, and operating envelopes.
  • Responsible for employee development, training, coaching, performance evaluations, setting clear expectations, conflict resolution and discipline with all shift employees.
  • Must ensure satisfactory training of new hires and existing employees by adhering to internal training guidelines, providing resource materials, encouragement, peer interaction, oversight, hands on demonstrations, testing, and follow up in a consistent and timely manner.
  • Responsible for shift overtime scheduling and attendance tracking including bi-weekly verification of payroll hours.
  • Responsible for conducting effective monthly safety meetings, by selecting OSHA mandated or relevant topics and utilizing appropriate resources and materials to promote and maintain employee engagement.
  • Ensures execution of the daily operations and maintenance schedule while following all applicable safety and environmental requirements.
  • Maintains proficiency in dealing with site emergencies, operational issues, mechanical problems, and troubleshooting.
  • Initiates immediate incident investigations following any safety violations, near hit events, and work related injuries or illnesses that occur on shift.
  • Participates in any follow-up investigations with management, including exceedances to the operating envelopes and safety critical alarms/systems.
  • Ensures compliance to regulatory Safety, Health, & Environmental requirements.
  • Creates, reviews, and revises operations documentation – pre-commissioning/commissioning strategy, plan, and packages - start-up, shutdown, and emergency procedures – LTT and blind lists, etc.

D. Required profile:

Level of Education & Knowledge (Relevant experience, in some cases, may substitute for a portion or all of the required education):

  • Requires a minimum of a high school diploma, GED, or ability to read, write, and perform mathematics at this level;
  • Associates degree or Certificate in Process Technology or equivalent and relevant working knowledge of chemical processing technology and operations is preferred.
  • Ten (10+) or more years of experience within a chemical manufacturing plant is required; Previous polymers process experience preferred.
  • Five (5) or more years in a Supervisory role is preferred.
  • Requires a high degree of initiative and ingenuity to work with all site disciplines and departments.
  • Thorough understanding and knowledge of required safety regulations and standard operating procedures in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, facilitation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to coach and develop teams and individuals through effective performance management.
  • Requires a high degree of initiative and ingenuity.
  • Must have the capability to set priorities and make informed decisions.  Must take ownership and responsibility to follow through in order for the facility to meet its requirements of a 24/7 operation.
  • Experience with polymers, extrusion, pneumatic conveying systems a plus.
