The Position: Shift Supervisor - Operations  - Provide direct support and leadership to an operations shift team. Ensure that production activities are scheduled and staffed appropriately to meet production volumes, shipments, and maintenance requirements. Lead shift operations in the identification and execution of continuous improvement projects and initiatives.  Work closely with operations technical staff to move these initiatives into operator tasks. 

What you will do:  

Organize and execute day-to-day unit preparation for maintenance. Support Operations Coordinator in major maintenance/turnarounds. Monitor and maintain recordkeeping of key process and equipment metrics.  Measure performance against production requirements and site manufacturing KPI’s.  

Sustain key organizational process including:
•    Consistent application of the Sarnia Site Collective Agreement, people practices, policies, and procedures for the Shift Teams.
•    Performance Management of shift team, including training/development of operators, formal performance reviews, and coaching/progressive discipline.
•    Manage and review operating procedures for a specified area of the plant, per ISO processes.  Ensure accuracy and consistent use and application of the procedures.

•    Manage integrity of equipment by adhering to operating envelopes and escalating any deviations.


Manage a strong Environmental/Health/Safety (SHE) culture in the operations group:
•    Acting Shift Incident Commander.
•    Ensure compliance to applicable government regulations and Styrolution SHE standards, procedures and programs.
•    Effective operations participation in incident investigations, use of incident systems (KMS), root-cause identification, and implementation of follow-ups and learnings.

What you will bring: 

•    Must have 4th Class Stationary Engineering certificate.  
•    Post-secondary education.
•    Chemical Production & Power Engineering diploma an asset.
•    A minimum of 5 years Chemical Manufacturing/Operations experience. 
•    Previous supervisory experience or special operations assignments preferred.
•    Requires use of software tools (MS Excel, Word, SAP)
•    Awareness of quality management systems (lab/ISO)
•    Troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills
•    Must possess an ability to read and understand engineering Process Flow Diagrams, Piping and Instrumentation drawings, and plot plans.
•    Aligned with Site Safety Practices
•    Ability to build relationships
•    Strong communication skill both written and verbal
•    Leadership Skills 
•    Ability to use good judgment with regard to people issues and absolute discretion with regard to confidential issues.
