Main role purpose:
The post holder provides analytical services and technical advice to meet SHE, operational and commercial requirements.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities:
- Provide technical assistance to the shift manager and/or plant management by analysing unscheduled samples using prescribed or modified methods to enable SHE, production or commercial problems to be resolved.
- Validate and report analytical results, taking appropriate action to address any anomalies, to ensure all business decisions are based on robust data.
- Maintain and calibrate analytical instruments to the agreed schedule, including rectifying routine problems as they arise, to ensure business decisions are based on robust data.
- Provide an on or off-site monitoring service during incidents and emergencies to help minimise the impact of such events.
- Train new laboratory staff and process operators in the use of analytical procedures to improve their basic understanding and technical capability.
Key skills and knowledge required:
- HND/Degree in Chemistry with a minimum of 10 years experience of chlor-alkali products and processes.
- Extensive analytical experience, preferably with some as a shift analyst supporting major assets.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to handle interaction with members of the public.
- High level of SHE awareness.
- Computer literate.
