Job Purpose     :           The Sales & Use Tax Manager is responsible for assisting INEOS’ Tax  Department in the US and working with the company’s external tax advisors.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

Compliance - Review U.S., state, and Canadian returns, reports, and registrations for excise, motor fuel, sales, use, gross receipts, goods and services / harmonized sales, and other indirect taxes; some preparation as necessary; ascertain that proper exemption certificates are maintained.

Planning - monitor tax law changes and communicate pertinent changes to internal customers; research tax issues and pursue tax saving opportunities.

Training - assist internal & external customers on a daily basis with tax questions and information requests; conduct on-site training for procurement, engineering, maintenance, and operational personnel.

Special Projects - pursue projects that would create value or efficiencies within the organization, for instance, the proposed tax accrual automation project.

Audits - perform proactive audits and pursue tax saving opportunities; coordinate tax jurisdiction audits; analyze audit assessments; develop alternative settlement strategies; negotiate with taxing authorities; attend protest hearings if necessary; communicate audit results to business units and suggest corrective measures for audit adjustments.

SPECIAL FEATURES

Skills and knowledge

The breadth and depth of tax role would require a qualified individual, CPA preferred, with a high level of tax knowledge and ideally 15 years of experience working in industry and/or in the tax department of a large firm of accountants.

The company has a large percentage of its operations located in Texas. The ideal candidate would have a thorough knowledge of the Texas Sales & Use tax rules as applicable to manufacturers.

The jobholder will also be required to have well developed PC skills; knowledge of SAP and Access.

Key competencies

The jobholder needs to be pro-active and have strong interpersonal skills to resolve issues and present information effectively and persuasively to other people both internally and externally. Communications and presentations will be made to varying levels within the organization from middle management up to the company’s most senior executives. 

There is a need to be flexible and adaptable in order to meet the changing demands of both INEOS Group and the US Business Units. 

The jobholder must be able to work efficiently and accurately to ensure that tight deadlines and high standards are met.  This will involve good time management skills.

Travel

This position may require some travel to facilities outside of Texas. Estimated travel 5%.
