The safety engineer is the SHE field technical contact who collects environmental performance data (air, water, and solid) as well as process safety evaluations (HAZOPs, JSAs, MOCs) to comply with Ineos IGGNs, 20 Principles to identify and reduce environmental and safety risks.

C. Accountabilities of the job: describe the main results expected from the job
Accountability 1: SHE Excellence:
- Lead, support and promote the 20 Principles for Managing Behavioral Safety and Process Safety and the Lifesaving Rules
- Leads the safety effort by setting expectations, participating, and leading SHE activities for their role (Risk Assessments, training, incident investigations, Safety Observations, and audits).
- Completes investigation/assessment corrective actions
- Assuring that all Safety and Health regulatory and INEOS requirements have been properly identified and that processes are designed to ensure compliance
- Accountable for the delivery of Safety and Health Programs at the Cooper River Facility
- Leads, manages, and develops a cross functional team of health and safety subject matter experts
- Provide assurance that the Safety and Health management system builds on the site's culture of employee involvement, engagement and continuous improvement of our processes
- Ensure that SHE knowledge is adequately transferred including investigation of incidents, sharing of best practices, reporting of key issues and lessons learned both internal and external to Cooper River
- Responsible for promoting continual risk reduction
- Ensure a risk-based approach is in place for all SHE related processes, including risk assessments and mitigation plans
- Responsible and accountable for ensuring that all safety regulatory and INEOS requirements have been properly identified and that effective processes are in place to ensure compliance.

- Mentors and actively participates in Central Safety Committee and SHE sub-committees
- Act as SHE representative on assigned unit management teams, including regular meeting attendance, permit audits, behavioral safety system participation, timely completion of assigned actions, ensuring that SHE knowledge is shared among all units, and similar unit-related activities
- This role may at times serve on the Incident Management Team (IMT)
- Routinely interact with employees and contractors on Behavioral and Process Safety Principles concerns and issues.
- Ensure SHE and PSM targets are met and continuously improved.
- Actively participates in MOC approvals; PSM, OSHA, EPA/OEPD, ISO 14001, Insurance audits; incident investigations, corrective actions.
- Reviews / approves Critical Interlock / Bypass permits as required.
- Assist SHE team in compilation and analysis of Safety, Environmental, Process Safety data and trends, communicates results, and recommends interventions to improve performance
- Conducts field reviews, audits, and incident investigations which may involve working at heights, entry into confined spaces and/or hazardous work locations, operating lift equipment, and locking/tagging out equipment
- Works with Environmental Engineer to support performance objectives and provides leadership to minimize impact on the environment.
- Assist in completing permit applications and modifications, as well as all environmental reporting
- Maintain Global SHE monthly reporting.
- Maintain site databases concerning near hits, action items and audits.
- Maintain the plant SHE investigation log, review all SHE investigations to ensure root causes and actions are appropriate and distribute completed investigations.
- Maintain a comprehensive contractor management process, including audits and annual re-qualifications.
- Track and publish site SHE KPI’s and statistics and communicate the results to employees
- Develop communication packages and activities to support the company’s SHE Principles (safety stand-ups).
- Participate in 20 Principle audits.
- Develop an annual SHE internal audit schedule.
- Develop and deliver SHE training to plant employees.

Level of education & Experience in general
- Engineering/Environmental Bachelor’s of Science degree and/or at least 10 years of related industrial experience in SHE compliance or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in petrochemical manufacturing or SHE/PSM roles, with an understanding of issues related to specific types of equipment, unit operations and maintenance is preferred.
- Must be fluent in written and spoken English
- Strong knowledge of safety and environmental systems and the pro-active application of new techniques to improve SHE performance.
- Strong bias for action to identify potential problems and co-ordinate their resolution before they become an issue.
- Detailed knowledge of industry standards as applied to petrochemical facilities, Process Safety Management (PSM), and Risk Management Program (RMP).
- High level of safety awareness and a demonstrated solid safety and environmental performance history.
- Proven ability to work with others with strong inter-personal, influencing and leadership skills.
- Strong written, verbal, and communications skills.
- An ability to manage work priorities to deliver real performance improvements in a busy and demanding work environment.

H. Essential Job Functions: Physical Requirements, Visual Acuity, and Environmental Factors
- Exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally and 10 pounds of force frequently and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
- Must have the ability to see written documents, computer screens and to adjust focus and to receive detailed information through oral communication, make discriminations in sound, and perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels, with or without correction.
