Safety Engineer  (F/M)

JOB DESCRIPTION   

A. Purpose /Role of the job :

To drive the safety improvements at plant in line with the INEOS Styrolution safety health and environment (SHE) standards, policies and implement special safety projects (i.e. - SHE Task force recommendations).

B. Environment/Context/Complexity of the job:

To bridge the gap between the STY safety expectations and current safety standards at plant, as identified during the global SHE Taskforce (TF) visit to all India plants in 2015.

The recommendations are part of SHE TF action items.   

Responsible to help plant management to,

  • Understand all expectations related to safety
  • Perform the gap analysis
  • Drive and track on time implementation of corrective actions
  • Validate the correct implementation of improvements.
  • Actively support further improvement

C. Responsibilities/ Accountabilities of the job:

  1. Key Result Areas:

Implementation of SHE TF recommendations

Major Activities:

Understand the SHE TF action items.

Discuss the expectations with concerned departments.

Follow up on the implementation of action items.

Validate the implemented action items.

Outcome:

Correct implementation of SHE TF recommendations.

  1. Key Result Areas:

Tracking of Safety related action items        

Major Activities:

Compile action items from all safety audits, plant walkthroughs, HAZOPs, etc.

Facilitate use of KMS for action item tracking.

Follow up with responsible persons.

Validate the implemented action items.

Outcome:

On time implementation of recommendations related to safety.

  1. Key Result Areas:

INEOS Group Guidance Notes (IGGN) compliance

Major Activities:

Complete the gap analysis for all IGGNs.

Prepare an action plan for closing the gaps in co-ordination with other plants.

Follow up on implementation of actions.

Validate the correct implementation.

Outcome:

Compliance of plant procedures with IGGNs

Process safety  

Major Activities:

Adopt INEOS Process safety principles into plant procedures.

Do a gap analysis and address the issues appropriately.

Train the plant personnel as necessary.

Validate the correct implementation.

Prepare the plant for PS audit.

Monitor HAZOPs and actions.

Outcome:

Compliance of plant practices and procedures with INEOS Process safety principles.

F. Required profile:

Level of education & knowledge:

  • BE/ B/Tech in Chemical Engineer in Chemical engineering or Science graduate.
  • Experience in process safety
  • Diploma in Safety as an added qualification will be preferred.
  • English (mandatory) and Gujarati (preferred).

Experience in general:

5+ years’ experience working in a chemical plant environment is preferred.

Technical skills:

  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to correctly interpret and apply SHE standards and regulations to plant operations
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft and Adobe software and ability to develop competency in the use of ancillary software applications
  • Auditing skills and/or
  • HAZOP study experience can be of advantage

G. Job Requirements:

  • Must be able to climb ladders and stairs
  • Walking up to 8 hours
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 Kg.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces
