The Position: The SHE Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Channahon site to achieve and maintain compliance with Ineos Styrolution SHE polices and applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulatory requirements for the operation of the permitted site.

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or 5+ years’ experience working in a chemical plant environment is preferred.
  • Knowledgeable in SHE Technicial Areas preferred
  • RCRA hazardous waste knowledge desired
  • Previous experience as part of an emergency response team or first aid certified is desired
  • Must possess or be able to obtain Class K wastewater treatment operator, and non-transient, non-community public water supply (NTNCPWS) certification

Responsibilities: 

  • Compiles and submits complete and accurate information and data necessary to measure performance towards plant SHE goals and regulatory compliance, as assigned.
  • Collaborates with SHE staff and customer organizations in the development, implementation, and maintenance of Channahon SHE procedures and training programs.
  • Support with the oversight and/or completion of SHE activities including:
    • Emergency Response Systems and Equipment
      • Building relationships with local response organizations
      • Oversee and ensure Fire Extinguisher, Fire System, Eyewash/safety shower and Emergency Response Equipment Inspection, Testing and Preventative Maintenance (ITPM) programs are maintained and consistent with company or regulatory requirements
      • Oversee and support fire safety impairment program
      • Facilitating emergency response trainings for the facility
      • Responds to incidents
      • Develop emergency pre-plans
    • Conduct periodic Industrial Hygiene Monitoring consistent with site monitoring schedule
    • Support security system ITPM
    • Behavioral Base Safety Program promotion and barrier removal
  • Support safety awareness and training initiatives
  • Coordinate and oversee $400,000 of waste management activities consistent with Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)
    • Tracking and Inspections of hazardous waste inventory
    • Ensure waste manifests are properly completed, signed and tracked
    • Arrange for timely disposal of hazardous waste
    • Work with waste vendors and operations to identify opportunities for waste minimization.
  • Lead 20,000-point Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) program, including database management, ensuring monitoring is completed and timely repairs.   
  • Ensure Storm Water Pollution Prevent Plan (SWPPP) and Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) plan inspections and monitoring is completed. 
  • Assist with data collection and Method 9 and/or Method 22 Opacity monitoring consistent with site Title V Air Permit.
  • Act as point of contact for Ozone Depleting Substance (ODS) program to ensure proper coordination and tracking of ODS use at the facility.   
  • Oversee non-transient, non-community public water supply (NTNCPWS) controls for safe drinking water program at the facility and coordinating Illinois Department of Public Health inspections and testing.

  • Walking up to 8 hrs
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces

The Location: This opportunity is located in Channahon, Illinois, United States, only one hour from Chicago.
