Team Leader, Engineering Projects & Inspection

The Project Engineering and Inspection Superintendent leads both a team of multi-disciplined project engineers, contractors, and support staff to insure the most effective implementation of major project activities, as well as a team of inspectors and inspection contractors to maintain fixed equipment integrity and compliance to industry standards.  

Responsibilities AND Accountabilities

  • As Projects Team Lead the role is accountable for general management of site project portfolio activities. This includes, but not limited to, project development through various CVP stages, project design and construction execution, and start-up. Also included are analysis of project problems and the implementation of corrective actions.
  • The Projects Team Lead manages the site capital planning process and periodic estimate reports.
  • Additional responsibilities include guidance and development of project engineers, oversight to resident contractors, and interface with other PTA locations to manage overall BU Capital Plan. In addition, responsibilities include oversight and guidance of the plant inspection program. This position also interfaces with internal and external inspection networks.
  • The Projects Team Leader is responsible for project field construction, will publish periodic (monthly or quarterly) construction schedules, implement control systems to measure project implementation efficiency and predictability, and benchmark others to define optimum performance.
  • The Projects Team Lead interfaces with other locations to transfer shared learnings about the implementation of capital projects, acts as liaison with other Cooper River supervisors to implement and/or share lessons learned, continually improves construction work processes to improve project efficiency, and works with other supervisors to interface design efforts and outside parties to streamline field construction.
  • As Inspection Team Lead the role is accountable for oversight of the inspection team who maintains an API 510/570 compliant inspection program with the integration of fitness for service standards where applicable. 
  • The Inspection Team Leader serves as the Inspection Authority reviewing inspection reports and recommendations for approval and repair plans for fixed equipment. 

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or relevant technical field.
  • 7 years of experience in Chemical Manufacturing, Refining, or upstream project engineering / management.
  • Fundamental knowledge of unit operations.
  • Documented success in leading teams and facilitating change.
  • Practical application of CVP

Most Desirable Skills & Knowledge

  • Mechanical Engineering degree preferred
  • Professional Engineer preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in Chemical Manufacturing, Refining, or upstream project engineering / management.
  • Awareness and application of fabrication and installation industry standards BPVC/API686/TEMA etc
  • Awareness and understanding of Inspection Industry Standards – API510/570 etc
