Project Engineer

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT AND JOB PURPOSE Organizational Context INEOS is a global manufacturer of petrochemicals, specialty chemicals and oil products. Our production network spans 196 sites in 29 countries throughout the world. INEOS Joliet is part of the INEOS Enterprises portfolio. INEOS Enterprises is a global market leader in the production of intermediary chemicals that are used as an essential input into chemical value chains across a broad variety of end markets and sectors. The INEOS Joliet facility was originally constructed by Amoco starting in 1957. At our ~775 acre site in Channahon township, (about 40 miles southwest of Chicago) we produce three products - Purified Isophthalic Acid (PIA), Trimellitic Anhydride (TMA) and Maleic Anhydride (MAN). The proprietary technologies used by INEOS Joliet were originally developed by Amoco at the site.

Main Purpose

The Project Engineer role will be part of the Technology Group and will report to the Capital Projects Lead. The primary focus of this role is to provide engineering services for capital projects at the Joliet Plant, the manager the execution of small projects at the site, and to provide engineering support to the site.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Provide engineering services for Capital Projects at the Joliet Plant  Manage smaller capital projects on the Joliet site;  Serve as a project engineer working under the direction of a project manager to complete assigned engineering tasks related to completion of capital projects;  Ensure that all aspects of the Process Safety Management of Change (MoC) system are met;  Ensure that Process Safety and Mechanical Integrity requirements are met;  Ensure that capital projects proceed according to the site’s established project management system;  Lead or support the development, approval and implementation of projects, meeting the safety, schedule, cost and quality goals identified for each project;  Lead the project team and other resources to complete project stage deliverables;  Develop and update project execution plans;  Issue monthly project spending forecast for each managed project;  Accountable for project cost and schedule;  Seek out support when needed to remove obstacles that impede progress;  Frame-up options and make recommendations supported by data;  Actively work with project teams to identify, manage, and mitigate risks (safety, environmental, economic);  Maintain project records and update site Process Safety Information (PSI) and Governed Records as impacted by projects;  Prepare bid request documents for E&C contractors and equipment fabricators;  Prepare cost estimates for projects;  Manage the work of contract engineering firms to meet project objectives;  Participate in the selection of contractors and fabricators as part of the bidding process;  Prepare project Sanction packages and present to management for approval;  Ensure projects are completed according to the applicable company and industry engineering practices, codes, and standards;  Achieve project owner/site objectives;  Understand Project owner objectives;  Communicate project objectives to the team;

JOB DESCRIPTION

 Manage expectations for operability, reliability, cost, and schedule;  Communicate project issues to site leadership;  Understand and follow governed records storage strategy, record location, and controls;  Develop relevant safety knowledge of site safe work practices, hazard recognition and risk analysis tools (JSA, High Risk Approval policy, crane safety, etc.);  Seek out mentoring to develop project engineering and project management skills methods/processes;  Maintain Proprietary Information in confidence and assure necessary confidentiality agreements are properly executed.

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

Education/Experience

 Bachelor’s degree in engineering, chemical or mechanical engineering preferred;  3+ years of engineering and/or project management experience;  Entry level knowledge of Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEP) - government regulations, engineering specifications, codes and standards (e.g. ASME, API, ANSI);  Experience with petrochemical/refining/chemical processing plant operations;  Familiarity with budget and cost control related to projects.

Skills/Competencies

 Capability to effectively communicate with contractors, suppliers, external engineering companies and internal INEOS staff;  Self-motivated, well organized, able to work independently, and ability to drive work to completion on a timely basis and manage multiple and changing priorities;  Strong interpersonal skills that leads to effective teamwork and engagement of other teams and contractor;  Highly developed attention to detail that supports managing multiple aspects of a project simultaneously;  SAP Experience is an asset.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This job is performed mainly in a temperature-controlled office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and perform tasks requiring repetitive use of hands. The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures on a computer monitor. The employee must walk, stand and travel by car or other means. They must be able to work in a variety of environments that include both fieldwork and deskwork. Minimum requirements include:  Maintaining constant awareness of personal safety and the safety of all other personnel. This includes knowledge of unit operation, procedures, and rules.  Being able to work in a data sensitive environment that includes large rotating equipment and hazardous chemicals.  Must be able to withstand both winter and summer temperatures while wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment.  Must be comfortable working in a loud environment that could include exposure to fumes / odors or vibration from surrounding equipment.  Being able to ascend and descend a barrel ladder with continuous vertical length of up to 35 feet.  Being able to climb and descend stairs up to a total structure height of 80 feet.  Being physically able to wear and navigate through the unit with a respirator if needed.
