INEOS Joliet is a leading producer of chemical intermediates. At our site in Channahon, Illinois (about 40 miles southwest of Chicago) we produce three products - Purified Isophthalic Acid (PIA), Trimellitic Anhydride (TMA) and Maleic Anhydride (MAN).

Main Purpose

As a Production Technician, you will be responsible for the safe, clean, and reliable operation of assigned area to achieve the site’s vision.

Responsibilities AND Accountabilities

  • Own training progression to become fully qualified in all sections of assigned area
  • Identify safety, environmental, reliability and production risks including equipment deficiencies utilizing knowledge of the unit and elevate as appropriate using maintenance work flow or other communication tools
  • Perform required process adjustments, sampling, housekeeping, and surveillance rounds to monitor condition of equipment in assigned area(s)
  • Ensure equipment repair preparation and post-work commissioning is performed following current policies and procedures
  • Flawlessly execute Safe Work Practices (Energy Control, Blinding, Safe Work Permitting, etc.)
  • Perform preventative maintenance, monitoring and incidental maintenance activities as required.
  • Review, provide feedback and execute unit and equipment start-up and shut-down procedures and plans
  • Lead and assist in development of plans for equipment isolation, turnarounds, shutdowns, and other special projects.
  • Respond to call outs
  • Continually improve knowledge of area and equipment after fully qualified in assigned area and continuously strive to further develop capabilities.

Skills & Knowledge Required

Education/Experience

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent ; Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field preferred;
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a Chemical, Refinery or Manufacturing Facility OR at least 1-year experience in an INEOS plant;
  • Petrochemical operator certification program completion preferred.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced 24/7 environment
  • Must have a strong, demonstrated commitment to safety

Physical Requirements:

Must possess the ability to work a rotating 12 hour – (4) day shift with occasional overtime (10-15%)

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to work around and on industrial equipment. including frequent climbing of stairs and ladders.

Minimum requirements include:

  • Ability to work in various types of weather conditions.
  • Ability to climb ladders (+100ft), stairways, vessels, towers, and pipe racks, many involving considerable heights.
  • Ability to work around dust, chemicals, and other substances
  • Ability to wear personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas (hard hat, safety glasses, safety boots, respirator and hearing protection).
  • This role is subject to the Transportations Workers Identification.
  • Ability to work a rotating shift schedule.
  • Credentialing rule or “TWIC” and requires the successful candidate to obtain a TWIC identification badge, allowing for unescorted access to the facility within a specific time period.
