The Acetyls Business Unit is one of the world's leading manufacturers of acetic acid and its derivatives, and owns & deploys its leading technology in Europe, Asia and US.

INEOS Hull Site is the European manufacturing facility for the Acetyls Business Unit and is of significant strategic importance to the Global Business, with a focus on Manufacturing Petrochemicals as well as Research & Technology. Our core product range is Acetic Acid and Acetic-Anhydride.

INEOS Acetyls is the business based at the Saltend Chemicals Park near Hull - a cluster of world-class chemicals and renewable energy businesses at the heart of the UK’s energy estuary. Here, we manufacture organic chemicals which go on to be used in other industries. Our business is the largest producer of acetic acid, acetic anhydride and ethyl acetate in Europe.  And in addition, Hull is home to an innovative global research and technology centre.

Acetic acid

Acetic acid is one of the most versatile organic chemicals manufactured today. It goes towards the production of food preservatives, and is used to make goods such as ink, pharmaceuticals and household cleaning products.

Acetic anhydride

This important chemical is used for a variety of reactions including acetylation and as a solvent for dehydration or nitration. Acetic anhydride is used in everyday products, including in the production of low temperature detergents, aspirin and paracetamol, plastics and solvents.

Ethyl acetate

Ethyl Acetate (ETAC) is a low toxicity colourless liquid used primarily as a solvent. It is commonly used in commercial and flexographic printing inks, pharmaceutical processing, paints and coatings and adhesives and can, in addition, be used in the cleaning of circuit boards, nail varnish removers and decaffeination.
