JOB PURPOSE: The Unit Operator works closely with team members to maintain, monitor, and control the continuous operations of plant equipment to turn raw materials into finished products at the specified quality level in a safe, environmentally compliant and efficient manner. This job description is intended to provide an overview of the position and does not include all the tasks that might be required in providing the necessary support to the refinery.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to the Shift Manager

JOB DIMENSIONS: This position does not have budgetary responsibility. It is a craft union position.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Uphold INEOS commitment to health, safety, and security; supports area to uphold INEOS policies and supports the site Local Operating Management System (LOMS).
  • Understand how the work of Operations affects the environment, supports area to minimize impact on the environment, and supports the site Environmental management System (EMS).
  • Demonstrate ownership of personal safety and the safety of co-workers, supporting a strong safety culture.
  • Work effectively, collaboratively, and respectfully on diverse teams, including sharing workloads and helping others when needed.

  • Monitor and control unit operation in accordance with safe operating limits and overall production plan, including following routine, start-up, shutdown, and emergency procedures.
  • Troubleshoot operational and/or equipment problems by collecting data, analyzing and interpreting results, and make decisions on appropriate process changes to maintain product quality and equipment reliability
  • Respond to unit upsets and emergencies as necessary.
  • Maintain and improve safety in the unit/plant, including housekeeping.
  • Safely perform minor maintenance on process equipment.
  • Prepare and isolate equipment to be worked on per the equipment isolation procedures and monitor ongoing field work to ensure compliance with HSSE policies and procedures.
  • Restore equipment utilizing return to service and other procedures once maintenance is complete.
  • Identify and communicate opportunities to improve the process, training, and other aspects of the operation, including costs savings opportunities.
  • Understand and comply with all control of work and other personal and process safety policies and procedures
  • Communicate effectively through verbal and written means amongst all levels of the team through daily logs, shift relief/reports and other materials as required.

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Essential Education:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)

Essential experience and job requirements

  • Ability to work 12-hour rotating shifts which will include weekends and holidays, and must be available for overtime, including short notice overtime (callouts).
  • Attain a passing score on pre-employment test which includes mechanical aptitude, reading, science, and mathematics concepts.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task.
  • Demonstrate a level of physical ability to handle the demands of the job with or without accommodation. This will include climbing stairs and ladders, carrying items that weigh 25 pounds or more, lifting items that weigh up to 50 pounds, standing or walking on your feet for an extended period of time, work outside in all weather, at all times of the day, any day of the week, ability to wear fresh air gear, and work in confined spaces .

Desirable criteria and qualifications (One or more of the following):

  • 3+ years as an operator or tradesman in a petrochemical plant, refinery, or other production facility.
  • 3+ years general plant or construction experience.
  • Bachelors or Associates Degree in Process Technology, engineering, chemistry, or other related fields.
  • Military experience.
