Purpose/Role of the job:
Plan and execute longer-range efforts to improve the unit performance, including process support for major maintenance activities, capital projects, and technological upgrades. Work as a member of the operations team to facilitate communication and foster a high-performance environment. Support the site’s process safety program and demonstrate a commitment to SHE through personal action. Support the Production Engineering Role as needed.
Environment/Context/Complexity of the job:
Daily interaction with Operations and Engineering to help develop, support, and implement large maintenance activities and capital projects. As needed interaction with vendors, consultants, and raw material suppliers to identify improvements, resolve operational issues, and provide technical support for projects.

Process Safety Management
• Ensure that all changes requiring a Management of Change are completed with the appropriate safety reviews.
• Participate in unit risk assessments, Process Hazard Analyses , and Layer of Protection Analyses as required
• Conduct root cause analysis on process incidents mechanical failures and recommend corrective actions to permanently eliminate them
• Assist in the completion of audit/PSM/quality action items
Project Support
• Managing project activities including scoping and prioritization
• Provide process engineering support for maintenance and capital projects to ensure proper Front End Loading
• Review new capital projects for presentation to the site’s CapEx Decision Board,
o Problem Statement
o Alternatives with Estimated Cost
o Proper economic evaluation/basis and how saving will be tracked
• Manage Operations SAP queue, reviewed monthly with team
Operations
• Function as liaison with all service groups to ensure that work related to the production facilities is accomplished correctly, promptly, and in the most cost effective manner
• Provide input on training of team members with regards to operations technology, plant experiences, plant record keeping, and safety
• Plant reliability and variable cost improvements
• Backup to Production Role as needed
• Mentor and manage Coop Student
Level of education & Knowledge:
• B.S. Degree in Chemical engineering
• Seeking or currently registered as a P.Eng in the province of Ontario
• Knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental quality issues
• Strong engineering knowledge and skills
Experience in general:
• Minimum 5+ years of related practical experience in the Chemical Industry
• Needs to be familiar with or show an aptitude to become familiar with chemical processes
• Needs to be results oriented
Technical skills:
• Computer Skills Necessary for data analysis and computations
• Detailed knowledge of process equipment a plus
• Must possess an ability to read and understand engineering Process Flow Diagrams, Piping and Instrumentation drawings, and plot plans
• Troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills
Competencies, Behavioral skills:

• Strong communication skill both written and verbal

Performance indicators:
An employee target agreement and performance dialogue is agreed upon annually in a collaborating effort between the employee and the direct supervisor. Then, on an annual basis, the supervisor rates the employee on their efforts to reach these goals. Feedback is then given to the employee.
