The Process Engineer designs, develops and evaluates manufacturing processes and systems, in whole or in part, to meet stated objectives. This jobholder is a Polymerization Manufacturing Unit Engineer and supports the operation and the improvement of existing manufacturing processes and systems. Responsibilities include maintenance, enhancement, and troubleshooting of existing systems.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Support unit engineering and production needs to ensure the asset runs safely, efficiently, and reliably at all times.
  • Responsible for the development of and maintaining the Operating Envelopes and Safety Critical Alarms/Systems for the asset, this includes;
  • Identifying appropriate parameters, consequence of deviations, and corrective actions.
  • Setting the safe operating envelop limits.
  • Investigating any exceedances.
  • Responsible for maintaining the integrity of the monitoring systems for Safety Critical Alarms/Systems and Operating Envelopes for the asset, this includes;  
  • Performs weekly audits to ensure compliance.
  • Lead/participate in non-compliance investigations to identify root causes and corrective recommendations to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Support/lead Process Hazard Analysis and Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA).
  • Write and support the Management of Change process through PHA and PSSR Evaluations.
  • Determine testing procedure and frequency for Process Interlocks and SIL/SIF.
  • Provide process expertise to ensure safe and cost effective operations, monitor cycle times and rates, correct deviations, and troubleshoot product quality.
  • Participate on improvement projects and other teams to help provide operation improvements.
  • Develop and update key/critical process procedures such as process emergency procedures, process unique safety feature procedures, key process control procedures, and other critical process procedures
  • Day-to-day interface with operations, laboratory, commercial team and maintenance to help maintain, support, troubleshoot, and maximize the unit performance. This also includes preparation and support for unit shutdowns, turnarounds, and start-ups.
  • Provide off-hours support to the Shift Supervisors to maintain production quality and efficiency in the Polymerization Process assets.
  • Implement plant standards for control systems development and documentation.
  • Develop and conduct control system and skills training for operations personnel.
  • Support day-to-day maintenance by attending maintenance scheduling meetings, prioritizing maintenance jobs, scheduling unit PM’s, and providing support of quality efforts through ISO procedure updates, audits and review of quality KPI’s.

Skills, Training, and Knowledge Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering and a minimum of 3 years related experience.
  • Knowledge of DeltaV control system preferred.
  • Knowledgeable of safety, quality and environmental systems and requirements.
  • Strong technical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft products. Strong application of Excel.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Results oriented and driven.
  • Makes timely, effective decisions consistent with business plans and department goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage progress and deliver multiple and competing priorities.
  • Works and interacts effectively as a team member.
  • Organizes work effectively and uses available resources. Requires organizational skills and a systematic approach to problem definition and solution development.
  • Strong process knowledge of polymerization units.
  • Capable of showing vision and developing strategic direction.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with diverse groups in sometimes tense situations to gain consensus and a clear path forward.
  • Ability to positively influence others/promote philosophy.
  • Excel in using logical thinking and sound reasoning to effectively persuade.
  • Organize work effectively and use available resources.
  • Pass a post offer physical and drug test.

Physical and Visual Acuity Requirements and Environmental conditions:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and perform tasks requiring repetitive use of hands.  The employee must occasionally walk and stand.
  • The employee must occasionally ascend and descend stairs and ladders, travel by car or other means.  
  • Exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • Employee must have the ability to see written documents, computer screens and to adjust focus.
  • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make discriminations in sound.
  • Work Environment:  This job is performed mainly in a temperature controlled office environment. The incumbent will be required to perform some work outside under hot or cold conditions at least 25% the time.

The Location: INEOS ABS is an affiliate of INEOS Styrolution, with both companies being wholly-owned by INEOS AG. The INEOS ABS manufacturing facility produces plastic beaded polymers and is located in Addyston, OH, just 13 miles East of Cincinnati, Ohio.
