FPS is a 100% INEOS-owned integrated oil and gas liquid transportation and processing system with a nominal capacity in excess of one million barrels per day serving the central area of the North Sea.

Oil and gas liquids from over 50 offshore fields and St Fergus flow through pipelines into FPS. FPS transports crude oil and gas liquids from offshore and onshore entry points, processes the liquids at Kinneil and redelivers to the customer Forties Blend crude oil at Hound Point and either Raw Gas or fractionated Gas Products at Grangemouth

job purpose

Reporting to the Technical Manager, the post holder will work as part of the FPS Export Technical Team to provide chemical engineering support to all aspects of the asset operations to deliver short to medium term asset strategy. The post holder will be the primary chemical engineering focal point for the LPG storage, refrigeration and export operations. He or she will work within a multi-discipline asset team delivering safe, reliable and competitive operation of the asset. 

principle accountabilities

  • Monitor the operation, and identify and implement improvements to deliver the asset budget volume, reliability, quality and variable costs.
  • Identify and support implementation of projects (capital and revenue) to improve the asset reliability, quality, grade mix and variable cost budget to meet the business plan.
  • Develop and maintain all asset technical process/ process safety documentation to ensure continued operation within asset design and regulatory requirements.
  • Deliver all formal chemical engineering input and approval for all plant modifications to ensure delivery of fit for purpose and fully documented asset improvements (including all TAR modifications scope).
  • Provide chemical engineering discipline expertise in troubleshooting asset vulnerabilities to minimise impact upon the short to medium term asset operating plan.
  • Chair or participate in site operational risk assessments and technical investigations.
  • Provide chemical engineering input to asset hazard identification studies (HAZOP, LOPA, QRA).
  • Complete the chemical engineering field checks of all plant modifications on the asset to ensure equipment is installed per the design.
  • Develop, maintain and implement tools and processes to monitor asset operations to ensure the asset remains within the safe operating limits to achieve high availability of the unit.
  • Complete technical investigations required to understand the root cause of any process excursions / envelope breaches / quality issues / equipment failures and make recommendations to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Develop strong working relationships with LPG asset stakeholders including commercial / feedstock planning teams, upstream and downstream asset teams to facilitate an integrated approach to technical issues.                                                                                                              
  • Coach/mentor interns and graduates to support professional development of individuals and increase asset/site/company competency levels.

qualifications and technical experience

  • Chemical engineering degree level qualification.
  • Chartered engineer or equivalent experience.
  • Detailed knowledge of site management of change procedure
  • Excellent knowledge of process safety management systems.
  • Good knowledge of process safety requirements for hydrocarbon plant.
  • Good knowledge of LPG handling operations.
  • Strong IT skills and knowledge of process engineering software.
  • Good communication and team working skills.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical, instrument, electrical and control engineering.
