Organizational Context
INEOS Polymers Engineering and Technology Support (POETS), provides technical expertise and services to INEOS assets and INEOS Polyolefin Catalyst Business (POCat) as well as delivering licensing projects around the world including commissioning activities. The Asset Support Group (ASG) maintains and develops the technology for Innovene S (HDPE), Innovene G (LLPE & HDPE) and Innovene PP licensed processes. Process control sits within ASG and supports projects and assets where needed. We are also developing and maintaining our own Advanced Process Control (APC) software.
This is an opportunity to join an international team comprising INEOS’s leading engineers, focused on polymer technologies & support for INEOS and licensee plants globally.
You will need a process control or chemical engineering degree with ideally up to 5 years’ experience in the Chemical industry (process control, modelling, design, plant support, manufacturing) and strong programming/mathematical skills. This role will also require extensive travel for periods of 3-6 weeks at a time to various Ineos O&P sites or licensee plants.
Responsibilities & Accountabilities
Purpose of the job: Within POETS, deliver expertise in the following areas:
- Process control
- Advanced Process Control (APC)
- Simulation (OTS)
- Instrumentation
- Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
The main focus in the next few years will be on APC, as we enhance our expertise and bring this knowledge fully in house.
You will report into the Asset Support Manager Process Control. Interfacing with manufacturing engineers, process engineers, engineering contractors, other disciplines and clients (internal and external).
Generic tasks
- Support project delivery including on-site support (e.g. join a pre-commissioning/commissioning team as a process control authority, perform As-Built Check, DCS Factory Acceptance Test, Production, Transitions, Optimization, …).
- Support development projects to improve the current technology to deliver value to the business.
- Provide technical expertise on IP to assist patent specialists in understanding the technology.
- Deliver training.
- Contribute to safe operation at client sites
- Participate in plant safety audits.
APC
- Work with current APC provider to develop the knowledge database
- Support commissioning and operations of our APC product on INEOS plants or licensee sites (6 active projects)
- Propose and implement improvements on our APC software to enhance plant control and operations
- Populate the model database, follow-up model performance, re-tune model when necessary
Dynamic simulation
- Support and develop our Operator Training Simulator (OTS)
- Modify OTS to test new technology development ideas
- Work with our simulator provider on maintenance and projects
- Support training of our APC product on INEOS plants or license sites (6 active projects)
Instrumentation & SIS
- Interpret project requirements and specifications and prepare technical proposals for DCS/SIS systems for submission to project team or client.
- Accountable for design and delivery of the process control / SIS and instrumentation aspects of allocated projects.
- Define and apply technical standards for control and instrumentation in line with appropriate industrial practice for allocated projects.
- For new plant or licensing projects, ensure that project deliverables from Licensing Support Contractor (LSC) meet the required standards.
- Lead interlock safety integrity level (SIL) reviews to ensure they meet required standards and fit licensing HSE design requirements.
- Participate in HSE process reviews
- Support troubleshooting, testing and controller tuning on projects.
Skills & Knowledge Required
Level of education & Experience in general
- Process Control Engineer or Chemical Engineer with preferably more than 5 years’ experience in control and automation. Less experienced candidates who are willing to learn will be considered
- Programming skills highly desirable including object-oriented languages such as vb.net
- Working experience on polymer plants highly desirable
- Skills and experience in projects, design, modelling, asset support desirable
- Ability to communicate in English essential
Technical and Behavioural skills
- Broad knowledge of chemical process engineering and /or operations
- Culturally aware and able to work well with many stakeholders in various countries
- Willing to travel internationally, initially could be up to 50% international travel
- Ability to work remotely with support
- Good communication skills and ability to work well with diverse teams such as INEOS manufacturing & process engineers and client operations and engineering teams essential
