To lead, manage and control all the operating plant activities at the Newton Aycliffe site. To ensure that both legal and company standards are adhered to and that the current and future targets for SHE, production, customer satisfaction and costs (fixed and variable) are achieved.
The role covers the Newton Aycliffe site and the 4 plant production areas (C1, C2, C3 and C4) with 19 production lines plus warehousing operations for both raw materials and finished product. It operates 24 hrs/day all year with the exception of a 10 day shutdown over Christmas / New Year.
The site manufactures medical grade product and the job holder must ensure that the correct processes are followed to retain the required certification.
Effective liaison between the supply chain and maintenance teams and external contractors is key to the sites’ success and the job holder will be required to provide leadership, coaching and influence to ensure this.
The role includes customer facing activities such as acting as the site host for visits / external audits by customers and potential customers.
Lead and manage the plant aspects of the manufacturing operation to ensure that legal, company and medical standards are adhered to and that delivery of current and future targets for SHE, production, customer satisfaction and costs (fixed and variable) are achieved.

- Demonstrate safety leadership through visible safety promotion, engagement with employees / contractors and challenging of behaviours.
- Leading the development and implementation of the necessary improvements to operational SHE systems (e.g. LOTO and Permit To Work) to comply with legal and business requirements (e.g. INEOS Group Guidance Notes).
- Leading the development and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures for all areas.
- Ensure suitable KPIs are in place and are reviewed / monitored for all aspects of the operating and logistics operations and that systems are in place to deliver corrective actions when needed.
- Ensure compliance with INEOS Life Saving Rules and 20 Principles.
Lead, manage and develop direct reports and their teams to improve their effectiveness in line with agreed objectives.

- Lead the use of operating Best Practice and Manufacturing Excellence.
- Develop and maintain KPIs to monitor team performance.

- Develop and propose succession plans to the Operations Manager and HR.
- Lead the development of Shift / Day Team flexibility and skills to increase cover options and minimise the liklehood of uncovered berths.
Lead and manage the development of and ensure the implementation of the Compounds operating strategy in support of the wider business strategy.

- Ensure the plant team have a good understanding of the wider strategies (SHE, manufacturing, business and purchasing), objectives and targets.
- Establish and maintain links with the engineering team to ensure that the site operating strategy is fully considered, where relevant, for Capital projects.
- Lead annual review of operating team performance.
Lead the development and implementation of and ensure compliance with the site aspects of the S&OP (Sales & Operational Planning) process to maximise EBITDA and delivery of the business plan, working with the Head of Supply Chain to ensure effectiveness of the overall, cross-functional process.

- Lead preparation of production capability budget - annually, monthly, weekly and daily
- Lead analysis of production performance through the year and monitor operational capabilities
Prepare, agree and ensure delivery of the annual operations production and fixed cost budgets and manage expenditure to meet Business cost objectives.

- Develop and maintain KPIs to monitor performance to budget
- Lead regular expenditure reviews with team
- Develop bottom-up budget based on inputs from reports
Provide operating leadership across the whole of the site and its support functions (including engineering, maintenance, projects, purchasing, HR etc) and contractors to ensure ongoing operational and business improvements.
Most important activities:
- Act as figurehead and champion for operating standards across all functions and with all contractors
- Ensure that all production areas have relevant KPIs and control systems for reliability and utilisation and have robust loss accounting systems
- Support operating team training from other functions (eg engineering) to ensure that all equipment is operated correctly
Level of education and experience
Degree qualified with previous experience in a site/plant management role within chemicals or manufacturing sector. Chartership would be an advantage
Good knowledge of Process Safety and driving a SHE culture.
