The INEOS Joliet facility was originally constructed by Amoco starting in 1957.  At our ~775-acre site in Channahon township, (about 40 miles southwest of Chicago) we produce three products - Purified Isophthalic Acid (PIA), Trimellitic Anhydride (TMA) and Maleic Anhydride (MAN). The proprietary technologies used by INEOS Joliet were originally developed by Amoco at the site.   

 

Main Purpose

As Joliet Plant Controller, you will be the financial leader for the business at the manufacturing site as well as a key leader of the finance team (located at a different location). The Plant Controller is accountable for partnering with business and site leadership to develop business processes to steward and proactively understand operation spend.  This role will partner with key leaders to advance business strategies and create a positive and effective work environment. This role plays a key role in helping the business leverage the SAP ERP system to understand results and drive profitable action.

RESPONSIBILITIES and ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • As a leader set the tone for a strong safety culture - support site initiatives and promote INEOS Safety Principles, Guidelines and Life Savings Rules.

 

  • Business partner with Joliet Leadership Team & Joliet Board
    • The Plant Controller has responsibility for creating business processes to improve the financial acumen across the site and transparency of data for variance analysis and decision making.
    • Develop reporting and understanding to explain key cost drivers of capital, variable manufacturing costs, manpower and non-manpower expenses and impact to cash flow planning.
    • Lead the business processes for theannual cost budget and the monthly forecast.
    • Oversight of the Purchase to Pay process at the site.

 

  • Key Leader in INEOS Joliet Finance Team - will lead the finance team in several month-end deliverables and components of the 5-year strategic planning process.

 

  • Responsible for maintaining business processes to extract data from business applications to support compliance and strategic business needs.
    • Subject Matter Expert in building and maintaining MS Access databases and SQL tables to support metrics and analytics.
    • Plant Controller is a Subject Matter Expert in SAP ERP system.

  • Plant Controller sets direction and support for indirect tax audits.

  • Supervisory Responsibilities Include
    • Financial oversight of inventory and fixed assets, including safeguarding of assets, cycle count and physical count adjustments and excess & obsolescence reserve considerations.
    • Actively supports capital expenditure process including full-year cash capex forecasting, project controls and creation of turnaround cost metrics.
    • Supervision of cost accounting and fixed cost reporting business processes (forecast, actual, budget variances).
    • Oversight of fixed and variable spending review process.

Skills & Knowledge Required

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting required. 
  • Minimum of 10 years leadership experience in accounting with progressively increasing responsibilities in a manufacturing environment.

Skills/Competencies

 Technical Skills

  • Proven track record of leading and influencing others.
  • Sound and balanced business acumen; can be both tactical and strategic in solving business opportunities.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP; International Accounting Standards a plus.
  • Mastery of O365 (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Teams, Access).
  • Proven working knowledge of SAP – has the skillset to extract and manipulate data to support financial and business objectives.
  • Must be able to build and maintain Access databases; SQL table understanding a plus.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and perform tasks requiring repetitive use of hands.  The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data on a computer monitor.  The employee must walk, stand, and travel by car or other means.   They must be able to work in a variety of environments that include both fieldwork and deskwork.
