ISBL PTA Shift Supervisor

Role synopsis:

The ISBL PTA Shift Supervisor is responsible for leading the shift teams in both PTA units at Cooper River.  This role provides leadership and guidance necessary to the process technicians to ensure the safe, reliable and efficient manufacture of PTA.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • This position – and all positions – within the INEOS Aromatics organization requires that the incumbent commit to learning, following, and practicing the INEOS Aromatics 20 Principles of Process and Behavioral Safety as applicable to the position.  Each employee must also commit to following the INEOS Aromatics Life-Saving rules and the site SHE Policies and Procedures including Stop Work Authority and Safe Work Guidelines on a daily basis.
  • This jobholder must lead, support and promote/drive adherence to the 20 Principles for Managing Behavioral Safety and Process Safety and the Lifesaving Rules.
  • Leads the safety effort of assigned team by setting expectations, participating, and leading SHE activities for their role.   Some of these activities include Risk Assessments, training, incident investigations, Safety Observations, and audits.  Completes corrective actions arising from those activities
  • Provides supervision and performance management to the operators on their shift
  • Identifies improvement opportunities and may lead implementation of solutions
  • Delivers unit operating plans and items assigned within the shift plan
  • Ensures equipment for maintenance is properly prepared.
  • Ensures constraints are proactively managed and the desired results are delivered on a daily basis.
  • Ensures product quality and production issues are adequately managed and communicated to affected areas
  • Identifies maintenance needs and appropriately initiates work requests
  • Leads quality shift hand over meetings, ensures accurate and complete logbook entries, and quality shift relief
  • Ensures all compliance activities for that shift are completed (e.g., Title V, LDAR, Control of Work, OE, VISIUMKMS, AAR etc.)
  • Works to assure that all personnel (INEOS and contractors) work safely on their shift including the safe execution of all maintenance work.
  • Ensure that all incidents are promptly reported according to plant’s policy and procedure
  • Manages unit’s abnormal operations (e.g., turnarounds, startup/shutdown, feed interruptions, etc.)
  • Interfaces with other Shift Supervisors, Operations Specialists (ISBL), Maintenance Supervisor, maintenance staff & technical staff
  • Responsible for unit vacation and overtime scheduling to ensure adequate staffing 
  • Inputs technician time into Kronos timekeeping system
  • Ensure training progression is on track per G-007 and conversations are recorded utilizing the monthly training tracker
  • Responsible for ensuring training compliance for assigned shift
  • Identify team/individual specific training needs and requirements and work with Operations Training Coordinators to meet those needs
  • Helps support supervision coverage on off-shifts as needed     

Skills & Knowledge Required:

Education/Experience/Technical Skill:

  • Must have been a Cooper River Process Technician that has achieved Tech 4

Behavioral Skills:

  • Safety Leadership - must be a safety leader and ensure that all safety standards are maintained by the shift team, intervenes to stop unsafe acts or behaviors
  • Organization - Effectively manages competing priorities; handles multiple tasks at once; organizes unit resources to meet unit objectives
  • Systematic Operation – Must understand critical elements to Safety and Operation and understand site procedures and practices to support delivery of the Operations Strategy.
  • Personal Interaction - must be able to work with and through others to achieve results and maintain a positive relationship.
  • Leadership / Pro-activity - must safely and effectively operate, troubleshoot, and optimize their section without direct supervision and significant oversight from other plant technical resources.  Anticipates problems and takes appropriate action.
  • Conflict resolution - must be able to work with others to resolve conflicts in a constructive manner.
  • Technical knowledge of the unit - Has working knowledge of all phases of unit operation.  Demonstrates technical competence of unit operations and the ability to apply knowledge in emergency as well as routine situations. Executes start-up and shut down activities.
  • Decision making - must be able to make effective decisions with available data in a timely manner.
  • Optimization - must be able to identify and implement improvement opportunities for the process.
  • Administrative skills - must be proficient in applicable plant computer systems.
  • Remain calm under intense pressure and acts in the best interest of the shift, unit, site and company.   Gains the respect of peers (shift team members) and superiors and effectively influences others positively
