THE POSITION

The Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring the plant runs safely, efficiently and in an environmentally friendly manner adhering to all compliance mandates/standards set by regulatory agencies and Company policy.  The position has responsibility for building and executing a department budget, establishing and fostering attainment of performance standards of direct and indirect reports, and partnering with other functional groups to drive an enterprise mindset in the accomplishment of regional goals. This role has 5 direct reports, including Process Engineers and an Operations Superintendent, and about 30 indirect reports in a unionized facility.  It reports to the Gulf Coast Styrene Site Director. 

WHAT YOU WILL DO 

Safety, Health, Environmental & Quality Leadership

  • Set the tone and lead by example in creating a culture of safe, compliant, reliable operations
  • Manage incident investigations and root cause analysis
  • Provide oversight and validation of PSM, MOC, and PHA processes
  • Support ISO certification
  • Ensure asset is maintained in good condition, meeting or exceeding expectations of INEOS standards, in conjuction with site leadership team

Production Leadership

  • Drive continuous improvement in plant reliability and availability
  • Establish production targets and coordinate with Supply Chain to support customer commitments
  • Define the operational scope for turnarounds and projects; prepare and execute decon and start-up; allocate Operations support personnel as required
  • Interface with Technology group regarding current and future operational needs; build asset replacement plans
  • Coordinate activities and outages with industrial partners
  • Ensure communication regarding the asset condition occurs with plant personnel and other stakeholders
  • Manage departmental budget

People Leadership

  • In collaboration with HR, ensure adequate, competent personnel staffing to enable accomplishment of Texas City Operations objectives
  • Provide leadership, coaching and development of all Operations team members.  Includes setting clear goals, conducting performance reviews, fostering career development, etc.
  • Interact effectively with union leadership to maintain a healthy, collaborative working relationship and ensure effective implementation of the contract
  • Actively engage with all operations personnel, providing leadership presence in the field, control room, and office

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

  • B.S. (or higer-level degree) in Chemical Engineering or equivalent engineering qualification 
  • At least 5 years of plant operations leadership experience in the chemical or petrochemical industry
  • Demonstrated understanding and application of Process Safety Management principles
  • Experience successfully leading multiple projects and teams while working effectively across organizational boundaries (functions, locations, companies, etc.)
  • Experience managing a team, department, or project budget
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with ability to interact with a wide range of disciplines and levels within the organization
  • Ability to demonstrate and foster process-driven rigor and discipline within the organization
  • Ability to inspire and guide others toward identifying and achieving vision and goals; provide purpose and direction
  • Ability to modify interpersonal style, to use listening and feedback skills to build understanding, and effectively manage conflict

THE LOCATION

This opportunity is located in Texas City, TX, USA​​​​​​ about 40 miles Southeast of Houston and 10 miles north of Galveston Island. Please note that relocation is not available for this position.
