Operations Manager - Sins

This role is to provide effective strategic leadership and direction to the production team to influence and maximise performance and meet the site business objectives.

A key role operating at a senior level with single-site responsibility; overseeing site operations; delivering across all areas of performance improvements and customer commitments. The role is also responsible for Engineering, Quality and SHE, driving profitability through best in class processes, ensuring all site activities are performed in safe and efficient manner whilst meeting budgetary requirements.

The Compounds Business has three manufacturing sites at Sins (Switzerland), Newton Aycliffe (UK) and Helsingborg (Sweden). The Sins has a long background in PVC compounding, back into 1954. It operates 24 hrs/day from Monday to satureday morning with exception of a 14 day shutdown in summer and 5-10 days over Christmas / New Year. The asset is a “stand alone” self-sufficient site operating more or less with full autonomy.

The site has a huge number of grades, in some periods of the year relatively limited product storage capacity and so end to end management of the production and site logistics operations is crucial to ensure that output is not impacted. The job holder will need to work closely on a day to day basis with the Supply Chain team to achieve this.

Although a non-COMAH asset the site is operated to the same standards as a COMAH site using the same systems and processes including compliance with the increasing number of manadatory INEOS requirements, many of which are intended to safeguard againt COMAH level risks. There are currently some gaps to some of the requirements and a key aspect of the role is to support the delivery of improvement in this area.

The site manufactures medical grade product and the job holder must ensure that the correct processes are followed to retain the required certification.

The job holder must have excellent influencing and coaching skills. The plant operations are carried out by the Shift Teams and so the job holder has no direct line management of these activities but, working alongside the operation Manager,  must influence and coach the Shift Managers and Operators to achieve manufacturing excellence.
