Operations Manager - Newton Aycliffe

Main role purpose:

The post holder manages the chlorvinyls PVC plant production facilities, power generation units, and warehouse/logistics processes in a safe SHE and efficient manner to meet INOVYN business objectives.

Key responsibilities & accountabilities:

  • Manage the S-PVC production assets and activities, co-coordinating with the SHEQ, maintenance, technical, and projects support functions to achieve the Company production targets.
  • Manage the chlorvinyls power and steam generation assets and activities, and onsite utility supplies such as cooling water, refrigerated water, demineralized water and plant air, to achieve the Company goals for SHE, output, quality and cost.
  • Manage the chlorvinyls warehouse/logistics assets and processes for S-PVC raw materials (chemicals and VCM), packaging and finished products, coordinating with production planning, customer services and purchasing teams.
  • Lead, manage and participate in SHE programmes.  Operate effective process safety systems to ensure that excellent SHE performance is achieved.  Understand, implement and comply with the INEOS 20 Principles for Managing Behavioural and Process Safety, the Life Saving Rules, and the requirements of the INEOS Group Guidance Notes.
  • Participate in the COMAH assessment and improvement programmes.  Operate the production processes to ensure that emission levels satisfy Environment Agency (IPPC) and industry charter requirements (such as ECVM, OCS).
  • Promote the use of Manufacturing Excellence (MEx) principles and participate in the MEx programmes to ensure that processes and performance levels are continually improved.

Key skills & experience required:

  • Degree in a relevant technical or engineering subject.
  • Strong focus on SHE.
  • A minimum of seven years of practical experience in management and in a production or production-related activity with major hazard potential.
  • Considerable knowledge and experience of the equipment, technology and chemistry involved on the plant and a flexible approach to work.
  • Able to manage by target setting, action planning and follow-up.
  • Listening, influencing and persuading skills.
