The INEOS Nitriles Green Lake Plant located near Victoria, Texas, is a world scale, state of the art chemical complex.  The primary product from this site is Acrylonitrile, a chemical intermediate used in the production of acrylic fibers, plastics, and nitrile rubber.  Acetonitrile and Hydrogen Cyanide are co-products of the Acrylonitrile production process.  Acetonitrile is purified through a proprietary process to produce a very high quality material with little waste generated.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Millwright Technician position is part of the Rotating Equipment Group reporting to the Mechanical Maintenance Execution Supervisor. The group manages the maintenance, inspection, installation and troubleshooting of all plant rotating equipment.  This equipment includes pumps, compressors, steam turbines, electric motors, gearboxes, and industrial refrigeration systems.  The ideal candidate has in-depth knowledge of hydraulic systems, belt systems, and other industrial machine components necessary for job procedures.  The candidate must be able to work in a team environment, pay strong attention to detail, make decisions, trouble shoot, and perform repairs with little to no supervision.

  • The primary focus of the millwright technician is to ensure all plant rotating equipment is available and reliable for operation. Communication and coordination with other craft personnel and operations is a key component to their daily work activities.  The majority of the daily work will include overhauls and preventive maintenance of existing plant equipment.  A requirement of the job is to wear level A chemical suits when necessary and pass a physical abilities test.  The millwright positions are also required to be a member of the plant Emergency Response Team

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Primary Responsibilities

  • Must be willing to be on call and available 24/7 including holidays
  • Analyze failure symptoms of rotating equipment and properly identify needed repair
  • Utilize overhaul procedures to tear down, diagnose, and repair all types of rotating equipment or make ready for transport if necessary
  • Be proficient in root cause analysis methods to solve chronic failures to increase run times
  • Capture, appropriately communicate and apply lessons learned and best practices to peers and supervision
  • Supports continuous improvement of the Green Lake reliability program
  • Use of Windows application, e-mail, and SAP maintenance systems
  • Build the foundation for machines
  • Decontaminate prior to transfer of equipment avoid contamination of work area
  • Supervise construction contractor during a plant turnaround or special project
  • Apply lubricants to all types of rotating equipment, collect samples, and perform periodic changes
  • Work with a range of hand tools including measuring tools, welding, and brazing equipment

Secondary responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot industrial refrigeration system problems, performing leak checks and refrigerant additions
  • Complete vibration routes using data collector and analyzing data.
  • Participate in audits and interviews, including 20 Principals, OSHA, TNRCC, ISO 9002, etc.
  • Reports all incidents and completes incident report in Gensuites.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • 3 years’ experience as a journeyman millwright required; preferably in a petrochemical environment
  • HS diploma or equivalent required
  • NCCER millwright certification required

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

  • In-depth knowledge of construction equipment and machinery
  • Must be able to work well in a team environment
  • Vibration analysis: formally trained with data collection and detailed analysis of vibration signatures
  • Lubrication: formally trained in proper lubrication methods, types, and applications
  • Refrigeration: formally trained in troubleshooting and repair of large-scale industrial refrigeration systems.  Knowledge in refrigerant handling and recycling
  • Petrochemical plant experience
  • Machinist: formally trained in operating lathes and mills for parts repair or manufacture
  • Strong attention to detail with strong mathematical skills
  • Trouble shooting skills must be able to follow a problem to the source and solve
  • Understand equipment rigging needed to lift and position equipment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Covid-19 Vaccine
  • Ability to perform duties and climb stairs while wearing 35 lb Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), Fire Bunker Gear or fully enclosed Hazardous Chemical Suit for 30 minutes at a time.
  • Ability to climb fixed vertical ladder cages at heights up to 30 ft. To a total of 200 ft. (Ladder cages provide rest stop every 30 ft.)
  • Ability to climb 6 flights of stairs carrying a weighted object, i.e. Fire Extinguisher. Ability to open/close large valves. Ability to enter enclosed spaces through 18” man-way, for rescue and permitting purposes.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. or rescue a person while wearing necessary PPE.
  • Able to pull approximate 100 lbs., as a part of Emergency Rescue.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment: hard hat, safety glasses, chemical goggles, faces shield, rigid safety shoes/boots, full/half face cartridge masks.
  • Ability to perform Emergency Response Duties.
  • Ability to safely work with hazardous chemicals according to facility policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work a rotating 12 hour shift with periodic overtime.  Must be able to work outdoors/inclement weather
  • Job specific: Climbing, balance, stoop/bend, kneel, squat, crouch, crawl, lift, carry, endurance, push/pulling.
  • Must be able to tolerate confined spaces and work at heights. Operate emergency response vehicles. Ambulance, fire truck, response van. Automatic/standard transmission.
  • Need to evaluate understanding of proper lifting techniques and body mechanics.
  • Must possess valid driver’s license to operate emergency equipment, i.e. ambulance/fire truck
