The Position

The Maintenance Manager provides leadership, manages the plant maintenance strategy, and ensures that maintenance work practices are safe, reliable, and consistent with our 20 Safety and Behavioral Principles. The Maintenance Manager is responsible for improving reliability through action plans for maintenance effectiveness and improvements based on solid maintenance work practices, KPI’s (including maintenance fixed costs), and a preventative and predictive maintenance approach. He/she plans, organizes, coordinates, and controls maintenance activities to ensure that processes and standards used on site meet all legal requirements with respect to health, safety, environment, product, quality, and cost.

This jobholder is a key member of the Site Leadership Team, is the Asset Manager for the Maintenance Department, is responsible for an annual maintenance / facilities budget of $11 MM, has direct oversight of 7 salaried professionals, indirect oversight over 17 wage employees, and reports directly to the Site Director.

INEOS ABS is an affiliate of INEOS Styrolution, with both companies being wholly-owned by INEOS AG. The INEOS ABS manufacturing facility produces plastic polymers and is located in Addyston, OH, just outside of Cincinnati, OH.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Industrial Maintenance Excellence

  • Contribute to plant business strategy development.
  • Lead development of Maintenance strategies in alignment with the business strategy.
  • Help develop KPIs for the maintenance group that are attainable and measurable while constantly enhancing cost effectiveness.
  • Ensure shared Maintenance resources are effectively managed to provide adequate support to the plant’s overall needs, including large plant shutdowns or non-routine maintenance.
  • Ensure effective use of third party contractors for specialized maintenance needs.
  • Interact, coordinate and consult with procurement for fixed and variable cost initiatives to meet business plan.
  • Accountable for maintenance employee training and development, direction, standards, communication, support and technical guidance.
  • Develop the plant and equipment maintenance strategy based on business and site goals.
  • Accountable for prioritization of maintenance work across the plant.
  • Responsible for identifying and reducing downtime caused by planned and unplanned events in order to minimize lost production.

Maintenance Logistics

  • Coordinate large plant turnaround maintenance activities in conjunction with operations and production planning.
  • Support new installations, process improvements, and define and set up spare parts.
  • Ensure that management objectives are met and that the operations plan is executed.
  • Participate in the preparation of and administer the plant’s maintenance budget.
  • Support initiatives and goals in the areas of operational efficiency and cost reduction.
  • Instill ownership and responsibility to create a superior maintenance organization in the maintenance team leaders, maintenance planners, and hourly trade employees.
  • Oversee the creation of reusable job plans (in SAP) by site maintenance planners.
  • Ensure job preparation and planning processes are updated with current data obtained during the execution of the work in the field.
  • Serve as a technical resource to unit maintenance personnel.

Leadership

  • Line Supervisor for Maintenance Department professionals.
  • Develop and communicate clear goals and standards and ensure professional and career development for team members.
  • Conduct Performance Reviews for direct reports.
  • Champion new ideas, and inspire for excellence and trust, foster a team environment.
  • Lead/manage direct reports and monitor the cascading of leadership and management competencies throughout the organization.

SHE Excellence

  • Participate in incident investigations, per procedure, including exceedances to procedure or equipment, operating envelopes, and safety critical alarms/system variances.
  • Adhere to World Class Reliability standards.
  • Must ensure that the right organization (such as budgeting, personnel, capital projects, housekeeping, etc.) is in place and the adequate resources are available for maintaining a good integrity level in the asset.
  • Is a key participant in the PSM steering team related to his asset(s).
  • Participate in and lead incident investigations, safety, environmental, and quality audits.
  • Lead the maintenance department’s workflow and SHE efforts by ensuring that routine, preventive, predictive and specialized maintenance services are provided in a timely, reliable and cost effective manner.
  • Implement improvements initiatives supporting positive SHE and business performance.

Training, Skills, and Knowledge Required

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and a minimum of 8 years of experience in maintenance, engineering, or operations of a manufacturing environment (preferably petrochemical manufacturing), or considerable experience in mechanical or electric trades with minimum of 5 years as a supervisor. 

Technical Skills

  • Good technical skills in the area of equipment design and maintenance. 
  • Must have understanding of mechanical and instrumentation equipment and their maintenance, mechanical integrity, and inspection methods.
  • A strong technical knowledge of typical preventive maintenance and repair activities involving rotating equipment, instrumentation, and electrical equipment is required.
  • Must be aware and understand the impact of the various regulatory guidelines as they relate to engineering practices. 
  • Familiarity with environmental, safety, and health practices.  Knowledge of OSHA PSM regulations, ASME codes, and pressure piping codes is important.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of the maintenance management process. 
  • Possess strong leadership skills with the ability to strongly support maintenance programs, standards and enhancements. Prefer previous supervision responsibilities.
  • Knowledge and experience with safe work practices accompanied by a superior safety attitude.

Behavioural skills

  • Excellent safety skills.  Must comply with OSHA, 20 Principles and plant-specific safety procedures. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, analytical, problem solving and organizational skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups and/or subordinates. 
  • Ability to lead, manage and develop large number of direct and indirect reports.
  • Demonstrate proactive/strategic behaviour towards continuous improvement.
  • Effective operating cost management (fixed and variable).
  • Effective decision making ability.
  • Effective technical analysis skills.
  • Effectively drive for performance improvement in direct and indirect reports.

Physical Requirements: 

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand and walk and perform tasks requiring repetitive use of hands.  The employee must frequently ascend and descend stairs.  The employee must occasionally ascend and descend caged ladders, turn valves/wrench handles, and bend stoop twist, kneel/crouch/crawl, and reach above should height and reach at or below should height.  Exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
    Employee must have the ability to see written documents, computer screens and to adjust focus.
  • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction.   Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make discriminations in sound.
  • Work Environment:  This job is performed in a temperature controlled office environment 80% of the time and outside under potentially hot or cold conditions up to 20% the time.
