Machinist Craftsman

Role synopsis:

Machinist works independently and with others to perform preventative, predictive and routine maintenance tasks. They troubleshoot issues, repair failures of production and facilities equipment while ensuring maximum equipment efficiency and effectiveness. The Machinist is responsible for maintenance and repair of rotating equipment with emphasis on troubleshooting, diagnosing, inspection, and repair of equipment including pumps, seals, fans, reciprocating compressors, centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, gearboxes, and valves. Manual machining may include lathe, milling, and grinding.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Performs all work for which they are qualified, related to repairing, altering, fabricating, removing, installing, assembling, troubleshooting, and servicing a wide variety of rotating equipment including pumps, compressors, cooling fans, gearboxes, etc.

  • Maintains and operates all equipment and tools to support and maintain required skills.

  • Performs effective preventive and predictive monitoring and maintenance techniques to identify and define abnormal operating conditions.

  • Troubleshoots, repairs, calibrates, and installs mechanical equipment that is used in the chemical processing facility.

  • Reads and interprets work orders, equipment manuals, and mechanical drawings to perform required maintenance.

  • Collects equipment operation and history data to facilitate reliability improvements and update equipment records.

  • Supports emergency plant needs 24 hours per day, which includes on-call assignment for overtime and off hours work requests.

  • Participates in Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and Incident Investigations.

  • Maintains all test equipment in a safe working condition with current certifications.

  • Reviews work prior to start and has material, resources, information, and tools on hand to achieve high levels of productivity.

  • Coordinates maintenance activities with operations personnel, unit, and reliability engineering.

  • Reviews and interprets technical manuals/procedures/specifications as needed to perform proper maintenance and repairs to equipment.

  • Identifies specific cost reduction opportunities as well as improve rotating equipment functionality and reliability, process, procedures, and other aspects of plant operations.

  • Works in a team environment and assist other personnel in accomplishing tasks and major projects.

  • Climbing of equipment and the ability to work in confined spaces at elevated heights is occasionally required as is the ability to work outside in all weather conditions.

  • Performs all duties in compliance with our Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) Management System, applicable government regulations, industry best practices, and all other INEOS policies while promoting behavioral and process safety principles

  • Perform other assigned tasks.

Skills & Knowledge Required:

Education/Experience:

  • Required: 

    • High School Diploma or GED

    • 3 years’ experience repairing and maintaining refinery or chemical plant rotating equipment including pumps, cooling IM fans, centrifugal compressors, and gearboxes or completion of a Certified Apprenticeship Program

    • Must have excellent communications skills in English

  • Preferred:

    • Journeyman Machinist/Millwright or 5+ years direct experience working as a Machinist/Millwright in a refinery or petrochemical facility preferred
