The Position: Logistics Planner -This role is responsible for: Fulfilling all finished good customer and stock transfer orders from assigned shipping locations (primarily from the Channahon site); Coordinating the return and cleaning of empty hopper cars to ensure uninterrupted supply for Channahon plant production; Arranging for the receipt of raw materials shipped in railcars to the Channahon site and the return of empty railcars; Coordinating the daily BNSF switching activities and communicating issues/changes to site operations; Coordinating the shipments of the Channahon site scrap materials including monomer purge shipments; Coordinating local activities regarding rail fleet changes and maintenance; Providing the necessary reporting and balancing activities necessary to control the complete and accurate recording of finished goods production.
What you will do:
Process customer orders in SAP for hopper car or truck shipments originating from the Channahon plant, working directly with Supply and Demand Planners along with Customer Service Representatives and Senior Buyer, communicating shipping requirements to plant personnel, and arranging carrier pick-up and delivery to guarantee on-time shipments of finished goods per customer requirements.
Manage inbound railcars received from BNSF and G&D to ensure uninterrupted supply for Channahon plant production while maintaining safe yard capacity and allowing for fluid movement within plant yard, in addition to avoiding BNSF demurrage and disputing invalid charges.
Maintain shipping patterns on BNSF website and generate inbound car reports.
Generate daily shipping information, maintain databases, and generate required reports, by entering transactions in SAP, using various web or Microsoft applications, faxing or emailing shipping information as needed to customer, and emailing styrene status reports and raw material ETA to company personnel, in order to communicate the complete and accurate status of all customer shipments.
Arrange shipments of EB purge material as needed for disposal.
Schedule hopper car repairs within Channahon plant yard or G&D rail yard with mobile repair contractor providing them with pictures and description of repairs needed and keeping records of same. Request repair shop disposition and arrange for shipment of hopper cars needing repairs offsite, keeping records of same.
Track various Channahon fleet railcars as requested by the Regional Logistics team and arrange for maintenance or shipment to off lease locations as needed.
Perform NCR investigation, analysis, and resolution, when called upon, to help achieve all goals for customer service.
Assist in meeting other customer requirements such as certificates of analysis, customs invoices, metal seal application and/or product grading within customer specification as needed.
Communicate BNSF schedule changes or service disruptions affecting Channahon plant to onsite and offsite personnel.
Participate in PBL, PGI, BBS Observations, Asset Care clean ups and conduct housekeeping safety audits for assigned areas.
What you will bring:
Level of education & knowledge:
3 to 5 years of experience in a variety of manufacturing and/ or logistics functions with emphasis on transportation and distribution is required for this position.
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
A business or college degree is preferred.
Required computer skills include Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
Prior experience with SAP is preferred.
Competencies, Behavioral skills: (acc. to competency profile and required level of descriptions)
Prior railroad experience is preferred.
Incumbent MUST be a self-starter, one who proactively shows initiative; has strong interpersonal, consensus building, and facilitating skills; has above average communication skills (both written and verbal); is computer literate; has strong analytical, problem solving and decision making skills; and has sound judgment of priorities and issues management.
Incumbent SHOULD understand plant limitations and capabilities; be familiar with rail, truck and offsite logistics operations; understand customer delivery, quality and safety requirements; understand the impact of scheduling on cost and service level (understand the impact of activities such as scheduling transitions, inventory management, raw materials inventories, customer stock out consequences, etc) be able to monitor and report on Logistics KPI’s, have some grounding in purchasing function and activities.
