Background & Overview

INEOS Trading & Shipping (ITS) undertakes worldwide physical trading and shipping and financial trading of wholesale and downstream refined oil products, petrochemical products, feedstocks, energy and CO2 products, with current focus on Europe, North America and Asia.

We require a Senior Legal & Compliance Counsel, to assist the Head of Risk & Legal, to play a key role in the delivery of legal and compliance services and support to the business. Reporting directly to the Head of Risk and Legal, but working on a day-to-day basis for managers across the full spectrum of the ITS business.

Accountabilities:

  • Provide legal and compliance-related support and advice to the Business, relating to corporate, commercial and regulatory matters and disputes
  • Manage negotiations of physical and financial master trading agreements and supporting documents
  • Responsible for advising on and managing compliance aspects of the Business and keeping up to date with relevant changes in the compliance landscape

Requirements:

Level of Education and Experience

  • Law degree and excellent legal training; 5+ years PQE from a prominent law firm or in-house team
  • Broad legal / commercial experience, or a specialist with the right attitude and skillsets
  • Previous in-house experience preferable
  • Previous experience of physical and financial trading contracts and/or shipping beneficial.
  • Some experience of one or more of the following: MIFID II, REMIT, EMIR, FinfraG, Dodd Frank and MAD/MAR, sanctions, KYC/Counterparty Due Diligence.

Technical Skills

  • Broad legal knowledge (corporate law, commercial & contract law, private & public law)
  • Exceptional drafting and negotiation skills, and organisational skills, are a given
  • Native or excellent written and spoken English.  Additional European language(s) a plus.
