Laboratory Technician

The purpose of the role is to perform a variety of laboratory testing of inprocess and finished product as well as provide technical support to enable achievement of process, quality, and cost improvements to ensure the on-going success of the business while maintaining a clean and safe working environment. Lab Technicians also receive first responder training to assist with emergency response. This is a safety critical role.

Key activities include:

  • Safely and efficiently operate laboratory equipment in accordance with Company policies, procedures and work instructions
  • Perform with minimal guidance:
    • Laboratory testing
    • Recording of observations and measurements and reporting of results
    • Participation in special projects / test development
  • Conduct testing/lab work in accordance with specified methods, agreed timetables, ensuring accurate results
  • Monitor and troubleshoot lab equipment
  • Undertake and successfully complete training and development activities
  • Provide on-the-job training for others as required
  • Identify and share continuous improvement ideas that may enhance process, quality, product development, safety, and cost reduction
  • Maintain lab documentation in lab notebooks as required
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping
  • Work in accordance with site safety rules and Chemical Hygiene Plan
  • Use appropriate PPE, lab coat, safety glasses and gloves, at all times
  • Become certified as a First Responder and assist in emergency response when needed
  • Adhere to the INEOS Pigments’ Safety Principles and Life Saving Rules
  • Maintain laboratory stockroom, supplies and the inventory of retained samples
  • Perform other duties as required

About You

You should possess:

  • An associate’s degree in a technical field
  • Minimum two (2) years relevant laboratory experience
  • Chemistry degree and background preferred
  • Strong mathematical skills
  • Basic knowledge of chemical functions
  • Knowledge of laboratory operations, analytical testing
  • Related experience in a manufacturing/laboratory environment
  • Computer literacy (MS Office, SAP, Minitab)
  • Integrity, safety commitment, teamwork, organization/ time-management, analytical thinking, and problem solving skills

Schedule/Hours

This is a salaried non-exempt, rotating shift position
