Business Context

The O&P USA business includes the product lines Ethylene, Propylene, Butadiene, Polypropylene and High Density Polyethylene.  Manufacturing sites include Chocolate Bayou Works (Alvin, TX), Battleground Manufacturing Complex (LA Porte, TX), and Carson, (Carson, CA), with a division office in League City, TX. 

The Main Purpose of the Role

The Lab Technician is responsible for using Standard Analytical Methods to provide prompt and accurate testing of process and product samples for conformance to quality specifications, for operational process control, to fulfill special customer requirements, or in support of troubleshooting or improvement projects.  The Lab Technician reports to the Lab Working Team Leader. 

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Perform routine testing to determine product quality status as specified by the product specification system in LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System)

  • Perform routine testing in support of process and product control as specified by LIMS

  • Accurately input all data into LIMS and record test results in a legible manner on designated forms

  • Analyze monitor samples and keep monitor records in accordance with the procedures

  • Proactively and continuously clean the laboratory and equipment to display and maintain the housekeeping standards necessary for a world-class organization

  • Follow the rules of statistical process control (SPC) on laboratory test results to assure the measurement system is in statistical control.  Follow all safety rules and actively seek resolution of safety issues using JSA, safety inspections, etc.

  • Actively promote quality goals and demonstrate attention to quality in job performance

  • Check operation of testing equipment, troubleshoot equipment to identify and/or correct source of problem, perform required routine preventative maintenance, and notify the shift team leader of any abnormalities or maintenance requirements

  • Schedule work to meet priorities

  • Conduct job tasks in a professional manner utilizing good housekeeping practices and laboratory technique

  • Participate as required on quality excellence teams or quality work teams to improve the current system

  • Work as part of the laboratory team to accomplish organizational goals

  • Follow and support the INEOS Mission, Values, Philosophies and Quality statements.

  • Compliance with all plant policies and procedures

  • Maintain required job qualification training

  • Ensure all required Preventative Maintenance is complete

Skills and Knowledge Required

Education and Experience

  • Associates Degree in Applied Science or Chemical Technology, or a minimum of two years college in Chemistry

  • High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate

  • Previous Laboratory experience preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Positions are on-shift work, working 12-hour day shifts.

  • Working holidays and working overtime to provide shift coverage is required.

  • Must be able to perform work tasks on the computer of up to 6-8 hours during the shift to include but would not be limited to ordering supplies and equipment, produce reports, data entry, e-mails, training and other tasks as required.

  • Must be able to drive to collect samples on a routine basis.

  • Must be able to analyze samples according to procedure(s). This task frequently involves, but is not limited to, lifting lightweight sample trays to 37 inch heights, lifting a 30 pound water bottle on an occasional basis, minimal to moderate pushing and pulling to manipulate equipment, standing, bending, kneeling, knee standing and squatting, reaching at various heights up to 70-74 inches without assistance and working at horizontal reaching heights of 16 to 24 inches at chest levels, repetitive fine motor dexterity tasks using approximately up 12 pounds of pinch force, grasping various items using force up to 25 to 30 pounds.

  • Must have ability to see written documents, computer screens and to adjust focus.

  • Must be able to hear/perceive nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Must have the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and make discriminations in sound with and without protective hearing as required.
