The Position: Laboratory Technician - This function exists to determine the quality and suitability for use of raw materials, in-process samples and finished product. The person will perform laboratory tests on raw materials, in-process products, finished products and by-products of the production facility and communicate the results of the tests to the appropriate people. The incumbent will work a rotating shift schedule with minimum supervision during off hours and on weekends. During that time, the incumbent independently follows a set sampling and testing schedule with input from the shift supervisor on changes or upsets requiring a change in the schedule.

Requirements: 

  • Requires a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years of college with an emphasis in math and science preferred,  
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills. Microsoft office software, LIMS or SAP a plus.
  • Able and willing to work a rotating shift work schedule.

Responsibilities: 

  • Assist in developing and maintaining standard operating procedures
  • Conducts routine shift testing independently and alone on off-shifts and weekends to support production.
  • Promptly communicate results to production or supervision as appropriate.
  • Uses the LIMS system to record and report results.
  • Maintain legible and accurate records and logs of tests performed.
  • Maintain knowledge of standard laboratory tests and procedures.
  • Perform minor equipment repairs and preventative maintenance when necessary.
  • Basic understanding of ISO requirements.
  • Maintain knowledge of chemicals used and wastes generated including proper management of containers, labeling, storage, transfer and proper spill response.
  • Maintain the laboratory standards, finished product samples and physical test pieces and required.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Continuous walking/standing above 8hrs and grasping with both hands. 
  • Frequent reaching above shoulder level, lifting/carrying up to 10lbs, crouching, operating machinery and exposure to chemicals/solvents.
  • Occasional lifting up to 11-25lbs, pulling, kneeling, twisting/turning, grasping/manipulation with both hands and exposure to dust/fumes.  
  • Medical clearance to wear a half-face respirator.

The Location: This opportunity is located in Channahon, Illinois, United States, only one hour from Chicago.
