BUSINESS CONTEXT:
The INEOS manufacturing complex consists of three world-class manufacturing plants; ethanolamines, polyglycol and glycol ethers. Collectively, all three plants produce over 500 million pounds per year with sales revenue in excess of $250 million per year. Two of these plants, the polyglycol and glycol ethers plant, are contract manufactured for The Dow Chemical Company.
A staff of sixty INEOS employees and forty contractors operates the manufacturing plants continuously. With the exception of supplying raw materials, utilities and some technical support, all activities are handled by the staff at the Plaquemine plant. These activities include reaction, distillation/finishing, process control, packaging, loading, quality control/quality assurance, maintenance, safety, environmental, and supply chain activities.
Purpose of the Job:
This position is primarily responsible for managing all aspects of the lab including equipment, lab personnel (6 lab technicians, 2 technical specialists), and product analysis to ensure that products shipped from the Plaquemine facility meet customer & product specifications. Additionally, the incumbent will provide technical leadership in the resolution of analytical issues and will take the lead on the implementation of any new equipment or methods required. The incumbent will manage interdepartmental communications and review of analytical results produced by operations, laboratory stocking, and management of reagent shelf-life.
The position supports lab activities for both the INEOS Ethanolamines (EOA) business as well as the contract analytical activities performed on behalf of The Dow Chemical Company.

- Uses analytical skills to support problem solving, efficiency improvements, new product development, product characterization, and product analysis and requires a strong working knowledge of GMP requirements as it applies to analytical requisites.
External Factors:
- Customer requirements and expectations for Ethanolomines, Glycol Ethers, and Polyglycols products are maintained at a very high support perception due to the laboratory performance on routine sampling of products in operating units

- Provide active leadership on the expectations for safe laboratory behaviors and uphold all safety rules and requirements for personnel present or performing work in the laboratory
- Ensure mandatory regulatory training for direct reports are completed as required

- Manage, evaluate, and improve the training program for Lab Operators and Laboratory Technicians
- Train & Qualify Lab Operators and Lab Technicians in equipment use
- Manage performance and development of direct reports and department through the establishment of personal and departmental goals and objectives
- Responsible for the development of/adherence to lab budget, both capital and fixed costs
- Manage lab operations through the establishment of effective management work processes for all laboratory related activities
- Provide direction and prioritization to address special analytical requests in a timely manner
- Lead/coordinate lab investigations

- Ensure that all products shipped out of the plant meets customer & product specifications
- Routine presentations, emails, & meetings that communicate quality system effectiveness
- Promotes and trains lab personnel on the use of the sites quality systems with an emphasis on GMP requirements
- Develops and maintains quality control documents within the guidelines of ISO Certificate

- Prioritization and assignment of all EOA special analytical requests
- Coordinate equipment time with operations
- Management of equipment program, including but not limited to:
- Ensure external vendor PMs actively managed
- Ensure internal PM program actively managed
- Ensure verification of calibration per protocol
- Equipment vendor contract management
- End of life/ new equipment quotations and implementations
- Equipment troubleshooting/issue resolution and documentation
- Drive equipment recalibration as required
- New method development and validations

Skills/Competencies
Education/Experience
- Bachelors of Science in Chemistry or related field
- Minimum five years of chemical plant experience
Technical Skills
- Minimum 2 years GC maintenance experience with ICP experience preferred
- ISO 9001:2008/cGMP familiarity
- LIMS/SAP experience required
- Experience in method development and equipment program management
