BUSINESS CONTEXT:

The INEOS manufacturing complex consists of three world-class manufacturing plants; ethanolamines, polyglycol and glycol ethers. Collectively, all three plants produce over 500 million pounds per year with sales revenue in excess of $250 million per year.   Two of these plants, the polyglycol and glycol ethers plant, are contract manufactured for The Dow Chemical Company. 

A staff of sixty INEOS employees and forty contractors operates the manufacturing plants continuously.  With the exception of supplying raw materials, utilities and some technical support, all activities are handled by the staff at the Plaquemine plant.  These activities include reaction, distillation/finishing, process control, packaging, loading, quality control/quality assurance, maintenance, safety, environmental, and supply chain activities.

Purpose of the Job:

The Laboratory Equipment Specialist is the primary point of contact for production laboratory personnel when equipment and instruments fail to operate or are not meeting operational specifications. 

Environment / Context:

  • The Laboratory Equipment Specialist reports directly to the Laboratory Supervisor.  The position is responsible for the management of all Technical Services sample and/or testing requests as well as managing the product stability program while interfacing daily with operations, maintenance, quality control / quality assurance, and commercial/business personnel

  • This position – and all positions – with the INEOS Oxide US organization requires that the incumbent commit to learning, following, and practicing INEOS 20 Principles of Process & Behavioral Safety as applicable to the position.  These Principles are posted throughout each Oxide facility and each employee must also commit to following INEOS’ Life-Saving rules on a daily basis.  These are also posted within each Oxide facility
  • Actively participate in and support overall SHE processes

Accountability 2: 

Equipment Maintenance and Management

Most important activities

  • Provide support for general lab equipment failures to minimize downtime and assist with diagnostics, service, and preventative maintenance
  • Coordination of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities with approved service providers, acting as INEOS point of contact
  • Develop and manage general laboratory equipment qualification protocols and procedures in accordance with requirements, needs, and standards including the cleaning and maintenance of the equipment
  • New and/or returning laboratory equipment qualification execution
  • Ownership of spare parts inventory system
  • Delivers related equipment training to personnel as required

Accountability 3: 

Product Stability Testing Program

Most important activities

  • Owner of INEOS 3rd Party Special Testing program responsible for quarterly testing sample submissions ensuring results are accurately provided to the Quality Assurance Chemist
  • Timely and efficient execution and reporting of results in the Program

Accountability 4: 

Quality / Laboratory Support

Most important activities

  • Serves as backup to Quality Assurance Technologist during absences
  • Offers feedback to manager as needed and/or requested
  • Strict adherence to cGMP and ISO9001/2015 regulations as it pertains to the department and departmental responsibilities
  • Other duties as assigned or requested by management

Skills/Competencies

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a science-related discipline, preferably Chemistry, required
  • Five to Seven years of experience in a continuously operating manufacturing environment in the Quality / Laboratory department
  • Ability to lead and provide training to colleagues

Technical Skills

  • Strong technology skills, including proficiency with SAP system, and ability to learn and stay abreast of industry changes. 
  • ISO 9001: 2015 / IPEC or EXCiPACT cGMP comprehension required
